MN/Chi trade: adding veteran smarts, don't mind the name

On the trade board as a response to a Chicago poster; thought I'd give you guys a chance to throw rotten fruit at me in here too. I think this makes sense for both teams:

Minnesota Trade Breakdown
Change in Team Outlook: +5.8 ppg, +2.0 rpg, and +0.2 apg.
Incoming Players
Chris Duhon
6-1 PG from Duke
5.9 ppg, 1.9 rpg, 4.0 apg in 24.0 minutes
Joe Smith
6-10 PF from Maryland
10.9 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 0.9 apg in 22.3 minutes
Outgoing Players
Michael Doleac
6-11 C from Utah
2.5 ppg, 2.1 rpg, 0.3 apg in 11.6 minutes
Marko Jaric
6-7 SG from Serbia-Montenegro (Foreign)
8.5 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 4.4 apg in 29.3 minutes
Chicago Trade Breakdown
Change in Team Outlook: -5.8 ppg, -2.0 rpg, and -0.2 apg.
Incoming Players
Michael Doleac
6-11 C from Utah
2.5 ppg, 2.1 rpg, 0.3 apg in 11.6 minutes
Marko Jaric
6-7 SG from Serbia-Montenegro (Foreign)
8.5 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 4.4 apg in 29.3 minutes
Outgoing Players
Chris Duhon
6-1 PG from Duke
5.9 ppg, 1.9 rpg, 4.0 apg in 24.0 minutes
Joe Smith
6-10 PF from Maryland
10.9 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 0.9 apg in 22.3 minutes

The Wolves need veteran smarts, and adding the 6'10" Smith to start alongside Al Jefferson to take charges and defend the opponent's best big man is a good fit. Duhon is probably a better long-term option than Sebastian Telfair for backup PG minutes behind Randy Foye.

The Bulls would benefit from Jaric's size in the backcourt, especially in the playoffs when they will match up with either Billups/Hamilton or Rondo/Allen in the 1st round. Doleac is a banger with an expiring contract. The biggest drawback for the Bulls is the length of Jaric's deal (3 more yrs. after this one) but he's a productive team player as a starter, and would fit well on the Bulls, where Ben Gordon is suited best to be a 6th man. Rip away...

Even if Duhon and Joe Smith couldn't produce at all, I'd do this from a salary-cap perspective. Duhon's expiring is about the same as Doleac's, and Joe Smith deal is cheaper than Jaric, and declines next season, and is two years shorter!

I agree that Jaric would help, CHI, but I can't see them doing this deal. Joe Smith has been pretty valuable for them this year too. What I might recommend is to make this a three-teamer, where Joe Smith goes to a third team (how about ORL) for an expiring and a pick? Or perhaps we add in some production like Craig Smith to CHI, and keep the late ORL pick?

I would love Duhon on this team, but Chicago wouldn't do this.

Me too, and you're right klomp. The Chicago posters on the trade board don't want Jaric because they think Thabo Sefalosha will duplicate what Jaric can do. From what I've seen Sefalosha isn't as versitile but is a better shooter than Jaric... oh well. Worth a shot.
