I agree with you that MIN may be able to rush in and fix this deal, if they want. Can anyone imagine what the working conditions are like for Devean George in DAL now? Coming home to MIN might be more attractive than going to NJ or staying in DAL, and on the trade boards, a few MIN fans agree with you:

As for this specific trade, I wouldn't do it. With the DAL pick looking to be somewhere between 27-30, its quite possible that a pick in that range could be traded for the MIN pick straight up. Second rounders aren't guaranteed salary, and the player that's selected can be stashed in Europe without affecting salary cap, lux, or roster size. I don't think losing out on the chance that McCants becomes something is worth the swap.

Some posters have suggested the appropriate compensation for taking George is a sneak peak at UFA Diop. I continue to say that we should avoid taking him on, because he can only cost us ping pong balls and up his salary for next year when we are trying.

A simpler way to do the deal is to send away Doleac for George and a future DAL 2nd rounder. We'd save a little money this year, and George clearly isn't in NJN's plans. However, I'd start by offering to take:

George and Josh Boone for Doleac and Green

.. to see how badly the Nets want to move Kidd.

Looks like the Nets/Mavs deal is on again, with George and Stackhouse replaces with Van Horn's false-expiring and our old friend Trenton Hassell. This is actually good news for the Wolves for two reasons:

1. Jason Kidd won't be productive when we want to compete with DAL in a couple years .. Devin Harris would have been. They also threw away two late first rounders, so we should hope to be better than the Mavs by 2009-10.

2. Diop is going to NJN, where he'll be buried behind Sean Williams, Josh Boone, Nenad Krstic, Stromile Swift, and possibly Jamaal Magloire. While Rod thorn said that the Nets wouldn't do the deal if they didn't get Harris and Diop, I just don't see how the Nets would want to keep him, or give him playing time. This will keep his value and price tag deflated if we want to make him an offer this summer.

Rumors had Diop going to a third, play-off team to make the Kidd-Harris deal fly after Devean George's refusal to be traded. If Diop stays on the tanking Nets, no one is going to be watching him.

1. I think that both Dallas and Phoenix are building for right now and their window will be closing quick, which will help us.

2. On ESPN radio they were discussing Diop and it sounds like they really do want him, but he might go under the radar enough to wind up with us.
