It was our pick coming back to us. But we had so much protection on it that I doubt we ever would give them anything of importance. I considered it a "future late" in order to give it a comparable value.

yeah there were restrictions on that pick when it was traded to the celtics but the way I understood it is that the restrictions got waived after we pushed the trigger on the KG deal

I was thinking about this too, and you can throw the Gasol and Kidd trades in there as well. MN did better than all the rest.

Off the top of my head, let's say you can judge a superstar trade by these criteria:

1. Primary young (usually) player in return
2. Additional pieces
3. Picks
4. Expirings
5. Add'l salary dumped with the superstar

All teams got two picks, likely to be late, so let's call that equal and throw out #3. Also, I dont believe any of the teams dumped additional salary with the superstars, so let's throw out #5 as well.

#1 MN got Jefferson, NJ got Harris, Philly got Miller, Memphis got Crittendon.

MN wins by far, with NJ a distant second.

#2 MN wins here as well with Gomes and Telfair. NJ got Diop but more for the expiring. Philly got no additional pieces other than expirings, and memphis got very little.

#4 MN got the biggest expiring, and didnt take back add'l salary. Memphis did all right here as well. NJ got stuck with Hassell, and most of the salary Philly took back was Miller (with Joe Smith the only expiring piece). Another win for MN.

Accross the board, if you agree that these are good criteria to judge a superstar trade, its pretty easy to see that MN came out better than NJ, Memphis, and Philly.

To be fair, I think KG has more value than any high profile trade of the last two years. His positive attitude, relatively healthy career, and overall game is hard to beat.

He is being compared to ball hogs, past prime players who are injury prone, and complainers.
