I think the individual stats shed some light on this topic:

http://www.nba.com/timberwolves/stats/i ... areer.html

Sam Mitchell is #2 in points, rebounds, steals, minutes, and games played. Role player or not, he has to be in the top 5 Timberwolves.

I completely forgot about Micheal Williams. He had a crazy FT streak going at one point (don't remember what it ended up as).

Yeah, I was really close to putting Sam Mitchell on my list. My fondness for Terry Porter is really from his Blazers days with Clyde. So Mitch gets my vote.

I'm still bitter over the Marbury situation, especially considering his potential, his stupid reasons for leaving, and the fact that Ray Allen would have most likely made us more successful. Otherwise he should probably be in there.

I think a similar argument can be made for Doug West.

longevity doesn't earn you xtra credit from me, Olowokandi could've played 12 years here and been #2 in rebounds and blocked shots and points, but that doesn't make him any less of a stiff.

The Wolves have had the following stars or quasi-stars:
KG, Jefferson, Billups, Brandon, Cassell, Marbury, Pooh, Campbell, Szczerbiak.

Everybody else were run of the mill role players.

You could argue that Billups was just a role player while he was in MN too - didnt fully blossum until he got to Detroit. Szczerbiak a role player too, even though he was overpaid and THOUGHT he was a star.

Billups showed signs, I think he set a record for points in a quarter against the Mavs if I recall, then he had another game that I think was also against Dallas w/ a ton of dimes, and he was showing lots of promise like he was ready to break out and make something of himself.

Wally too, he's been an allstar - injuries was probably the biggest thing holding him down. Plus the Man. If I had a nickel for everytime the Man held me down, I'd have many a nickel.

Sam I am was just a consistent role player. And it was cool that one time Flip started him at center to counteract NellieBall.

Wally was selected to the All Star game as a Timberwolf. Brandon had gone to two a couple years before we dealt for him, and won the NBA sportsmanship award (ok, I'm probably the only one who cares about that).

I think its easy to look at these guys as garbage because injuries sapped their abilities, and its easy to remember all those frustrating games they sat on the bench near the end of their time here. I think that dealing Marbury for those two was McHale's second biggest accomplishment, though the Al trade may pass it when we look back in 5 years. I dislike hearing how it's McHale's fault he never got KG any talent. He did -- they just got injured, and he can't be blamed for that.

Not that Wally wasn't good, but looking at the players who were drafted after him just pains a lot of us. Imagine KG with Rip or Marion or Artest or AK47 or Andre Miller or Jason Terry or Maggette or Ginobili or Raja Bell.... I'd rather have had any of those guys careers over Wally. And you can't just blame that on injuries. I think the few who haven't been All-Stars (Miller, Terry, Maggette, Bell) would've easily been next to KG, while Wally somewhere else would not have been so fortunate.
