I remember talking about acquiring Darko during the offseason last summer. If memory serves me correct I believe Rev was one that was in favor, as was I, and a few others.

But with the team we have now, I just dont think Darko would be a good fit. Skill wise he would be fine, but he has the red-flags, and being labeled a bust as many times as he has (though it isnt really his fault) has to have an effect on a young player like that.

RC mentioned it, Kurt Thomas is my ideal center to have here. If we can find someone with his skill set we need to go after them.

I would LOVE to have a healthy Jermaine O'Neal on this team somehow.

I think all the kung fu stuff has made Devilz wise beyond his years.

A few weirdos or at least questionable weirdos sporting rings:

Cassell 94, 95 Rockets
Rodman 96, 96, 98 Bulls
SJackson 03 Spurs
Donnie Darko himself! 04 Pistons (played no real role on this team)
RWallace 04 Pistons (No one wanted his loose canon ass then)
Mike James Bit*h! 04 (also didn't contribute)

I left Kobe and Shaq off the list but they are debatable in my mind

I don't know if we want to bet our future on a weirdo, but if we can get a guy that fills an immediate need without giving up much talent AND he has upside, I say roll the dice. Sometimes you have to gamble like the 04 Pistons did with Wallace. Proven winners with good attitudes don't usually come cheap. Darko's "bust" status could be like an opened box deal at Best Buy.

I agree with you, and particularly with MEM desperate to move long contracts to make the team more palatable to a new buyer, he wouldn't cost a lot in trade value. Darko is 22 - turns 23 in six weeks, and at 7-foot, with his potential, a $7 mil deal is optimistic but not unfathomable. Best of all, Darko's only got two years left on his contract, so I don't think the risk would be very high either. If Darko didn't turn out to be a fit, we wouldn't need to spend the 2009 money, and go right back in 2010 to finding a max deal free agent. I think MEM would look favorably at an offer of:

Walker and a 2nd for Darko and Crittendon

I forgot to add, even if Darko is a 2-year bust, I'd rather take the chance on paying him Antoine Walker's $9 mil this year simply because of utility.

Or maybe memphis DOESN'T see him as a bad contract. Here's a thread on their board:

I will say that the conflicting opinion, that he "is" a bad contract, comes from pardon_my_interruption, who I think is one of the most knowledgable and realistic of the Memphis posters. ::shrug::

I doubt Mem does this.

I think Walker + x for Darko would work though.

Maybe a 3 way with WAS?

Minnesota Timberwolves
Incoming Players: Etan Thomas, Darko Milicic
Outgoing Players: Antoine Walker, Marko Jaric, cash?\2nd\etc

Memphis Grizzlies
Incoming Players: Antoine Walker, MEM pick returned, MN incentive
Outgoing Players: Darko Milicic

Washington Wizards
Incoming Players: Marko Jaric
Outgoing Players: Etan Thomas, MEM pick

If we get Darko, I really dont see much need to take on Etan Thomas' almost $21 mil contract. I'd rather have Jaric. Im pretty sure if we keep Richard around and actually give him minutes, that he can fill the back up C spot at WAY cheaper.

I liked Darko as a compliment to KG at the 5. As a player to gamble on in order to improve the team for KG.

On a rebuilding team with a young core of good character guys I do not really want Darko and his nasty contract. Unless they are willing to take Jaric.

I can't see them taking a longer contract for Darko, but I could definitely see them adding incentive to a deal that turns Darko's two-year contract into a one-year deal.

I also don't worry about Darko leading our good character guys astray. I doubt they'd have a lot in common with him. He and Jaric are both Serbs though.

Darko/Lowry for Jaric/McCants?

Especially if we draft Mayo.

Foye/Lowry
Mayo/Foye
Brewer/Gomes
Jefferson/JJ Hickson (2nd round)
Darko/Jefferson

Im not really big on Lowry, and im definitely not big on giving up McCants to move laterally, which I think we are doing. I like Gomes to take up the back-up PF minutes too.

It makes sense to move laterally if we need to balance out the roster. That's why it makes most sense if we draft Mayo. No point in Mayo/McCants splitting minutes at the 2.

^ I agree

If we land Mayo, Shad will have no chance of getting the big minutes he desires. If he would be content as a 6th man type I'd keep him.
But I get the feeling he thinks of himself as a future all star and won't
be content backing up Mayo or anyone else. That is why I also agree with Deeney that trading him for a mid first this year so we can draft a project big man is a solid idea.

Mayo can play point and 2. We can still have a 3 man rotation of Mayo/Foye/Shad.
