I'd hate to say it, but I agree with this. If we're not going to be in the playoffs, I'd like to keep our pick next year rather than give it to the Clippers.

I hope we're bad next year so we get another top 10 pick. We add that to the core and then we have money to sign a near max player and make some real noise. I like that better than losing the pick and not being able to sign an all star free agent because we have Diop on the books- and thereby getting bounced by Seattle and Portland for the next five years.[/quote]

I am saying sign Diop in place of Smith/Snyder. Not throw enough money at him to ruin the future capspace. And yes I am sure if the Wolves sign Diop they will be doomed for the next five year..

My off season plan:

Keep Foye, McCants, Brewer, and Jefferson.

Sign:
Telfair (for about 3.5 mil/year for 3 years.)
Richard (for about .9 mil/year for 2 years.)
Snyder (for about 3 mil/year for 4 years)

Sign Zaza Pachulia with the money that everyone thinks should go to Gomes. This will make the Boston games even MORE exciting for us.

Zaza Pachulia (for about 3 mil/year 3 years)

That is adding 10.4 million next year is that too much? (shrink can you help me with this?...what do you think would be good contracts for these 4...can we afford all of them?)

I don't see it as imperative to keep Gomes like most do, but if he gives us a GREAT deal I'd do it. For me Snyder is the kind of player I want on this team more so than Gomes.

That leaves the Depth Chart like:

Foye/Telfair
McCants/Foye
Brew/Snyder
Jefferson
Pachulia/Richard
---------------------------
In the draft we will get the worst possible pick, because it's a Minnesota team and we never get lucky.

With the #6th pick we draft DeAndre Jordan...If we get lucky I'll take Beasley, Rose, Jordan and Mayo in that order (if we get a guard we don't sign Telfair)

In the second round we draft the Sweed and any of DJ White, Devon Hardin, Ryan Anderson or Jason Thompson...

If McHale is using a smoke screen on the Sweed Rudy Mbemba I'd like any of:
J.R. Giddens (Wet dream!)
Deron Washington
Jamont Gordon
Nathan Jawai
Bill Walker

That leaves us with:

Foye/Telfair
McCants/Foye/Buckner
Brewer/Snyder
Jefferson/DJ White/Mad Dog
Jordan/Pachulia/Richard

Overseas: Rudy Mbemba....
Or JR Giddens in front of Bucky.

------------------------------------------

Trade Jaric, Walker and 09 Boston 1st for Wally Szczerbiak and Damon Jones...

leaves Cleveland with:

West/Gibson/Jaric
Jaric/Pavlovic
Bron/Walker
Wallace/Joe Smith
Z/Varejao

TWOLVES FINAL ROSTER:

Foye/Telfair/Damon Jones
McCants/Foye/Snyder/Buck
Brewer/Wally/Snyder
Jefferson/DJ White/MadDog
Jordan/Pachulia/Richard

Overseas: Rudy Mbemba....
Or JR Giddens in front of Bucky. (we'd have to cut Buckner or not sign Richard if we did this.)

AD falling to 7 was lucky.

that almost makes up for Underwood, Hovan, Robbins, Boireau, Howard, Udeze, and James. All high picks, all monumental busts

our high round defensive line picks don't just fail, they go insane and contract diseases and retire from freak eye injuries. Thank God Tice wasn't able to get Ryan Sims. And he wanted Sullivan over Kevin Williams too, but luckily New Orleans jumped in front of us.

I know some may disagree with my "I hope we don't play so well next season" statement but if we have a draft pick higher than 10, we lose it and we can't afford that. We of course can't make the playoffs next year but I would be very disappointed if that pick became an 11th - 14th pick because we need all the help we can get since we have a lot of young talent in our division. On top of that, we would have to hear about how the LA Clippers got a lotto pick which means we would have to hear the entire season about why McHale is an idiot (again) and helps other teams more than his own (kind of like the current Celtics team).

I always think it is better to win more games (establish a winning attitude and all that). A couple counterpoints to your argument:
1. We could easily win 10 more games next year and still be in the top ten in the draft because other teams will improve, too and because it is still a lottery.
2. If MN and Miami end up out of the top, we would still have Miami's pick and Boston's pick that we could package (perhaps with someone) to move up into the top 10.

cpfsf, I thought before when you said you hoped we were bad for a few more years you meant like top 3 pick bad..I would rather keep our top 10 pick too. I think next year it will be close on whether or not we keep that pick. As of right now the Nets are slated in the 10 spot with a 34 win season. That's right around where I expect this team to be next season.

As long as we acquire a top 10 pick, I am happy (I of course won't complain if we win the lottery either). I'm happy and all we got two first round draft picks, but 3 is better than 2. We will be safe though, we won't lose it.

I would of course rather have a top 3 pick than a 9 or 10 pick but not if it means the Wolves using their secret weapon: Mark Madsen to shoot 3's.

I think the really bad teams next season will be: Minnesota, Memphis, Seattle, Sacramento, NY, NJ, Milwaukee, Miami, and Charlotte.

Indiana could be bad if they go into rebuilding mode, and the LAC will be bad if they don't resign everyone.

^ I don't think Charlotte with Larry Brown (barrying any injury) and Sacramento will be "really bad". I think they will be boarderline playoff teams though it could be not the case for SAC if they trade artest

They won't be really bad, but they will be worse than more than half of the NBA

anyway

I think these are second round draft picks that should strongly be considered (if available)

Rudy Mbemba
Joey Dorsey
Robin Lopez
John Riek

and we have two picks so hopefully we can grab someone talented

New Wolves Updates (check first post for details)

Here is the facts:

*Gomes said he wants to stay and McHale said that is the first priority
*They won't resign everyone
*They won't bring in any expensive FA's
*Glen Taylor said probably 6 or 7 guys will return (I don't think he was telling the truth)
*5 front office officials are scouting Europeans (including Rudy Mbemba)
*McHale is an idiot
*Hoiberg will represent the team at the NBA lottery

NBA Draft is just a few days away (May 20th)

I hope they take a look at John Riek if he falls to the second round. I still think a Bargnani trade could benefit both teams but he actually got worse his sophomore season so I dunno.

With Hoiberg representing us at the lottery, I am now confident that we will get a top 2 pick.

It will just be depressing if we end up dropping down, this is one of the few teams that didn't tank and has had nothing but bad luck outside of drafting KG and being able to get Big Al for KG.

Who is more lucky than Jaric. A huge contract that he does not deserve and he is dating Lima. We would be guaranteed Beasley.

Seriously though, I kind of think Al Jefferson should have represented the team because he is the face of the franchise. I like Hoiberg because he is supposed to be McHales replacement (I hope Hoiberg replaces him soon though).

The Wolves only claim to fame is drafting KG. After that, it failure after another. We need one good draft pick because if not, I fear this could be a repeat of the KG era where we are good enough for the playoffs but bad enough that we can't advance. The problem is then we don't get good draft picks and we can't really improve.

I really do fear the comment that Glen Taylor said that probably 6 or 7 guys will be returning which makes absolutely no sense at all.

Return to Minnesota Timberwolves
