Speights/NY Knicks

I have to say that what I hear about this guy and watching him play I would love to find a way to move up enough in to the first round to get him. What are other peoples thoughts on him? I would be quite happy if we walked away from this draft with speights and mayo. What are your guys thoughts on trying to get the 6th from the knicks? If we had the 6th and the 3rd pick we could make a big impact in the draft and get 2 really good players.

to get the 6th you'd have to trade Foye or Jefferson I'd think. I can't imagine NY having interest in Brewer. The Miami pick, while potentially valuable, is most likely not going to be anything better than mid teens at best w/ a healthy Wade/Marion/Rose trio

Plus Mark Blount, man that guy can light it up

Hard to read where Spreights is going to end up. He has been all over from mid lotto to mid 1st round, ie 6 - 16, I believe. If we could aquire the 6th without giving up the 3, it would be very interesting to see who MN would select.

I would probably like Gallinari or Lopez at the 6th personally dependent on who was available. I would take Spreights after Randolph and Jordan and weigh him out against McGee and other Big prospects in that range.

pretty hard to get top 10 picks without giving up significant assets

Denver gave up a prime pre-injury McDyess for a 7 I think it was, we don't really have anything on that level that we'd want to give up

Telfair can get a top seven pick, just ask Ainge.

Good point, we could only really do it by offering significant cap relief with our expirings which would mean another ugly contract for us, like all those ones we have been trying to get out of.

I bet NY would consider this trade.

MN gets #6, Eddy Curry

NY gets #31, #34, Antoine Walker, Boston's 1st next year

They're relieved of Eddy Curry's salary, get 2 non-guaranteed contracts that they can stash in Europe until they are ready. They also get Boston's pick next year which is only top 3 protected.

I agree. If NYK fans are any indication, they feel they can bring in LeBron if they can find the $19 mil they'd need for a max deal. New GM Donnie Walsh even said that he'd look at trading Curry or Zach Randolph for expiring. Finally, they need to do something to change that team's chemistry, and moving lazy, overweight Curry is a great start. MIN would need to find another team to ship him to for bad contracts, but I think the Knicks have a hard time saying "no" to that.

As for Speights, Wages of Wins guys rank him as the #3 player in the draft (behind Beasley and Love), and are highly optimistic on him.

Actually put something similar to this up on the trades board with McCants in there in place of Bostons first and #34. Will be interesting to see the responses to that.

Curry can't defend and can't rebound, and we'd be stuck with his contract for a few years. On the other hand, we'd get the #6 pick in a very good draft. Curry doesnt even have to play. I think Shrink has gone over it several times that its kinda the same situation as when we had Hoiberg.

Can you imagine Mayo and Love on the same team? That would guarantee us some more face time on Sportscenter. More importantly though, I think it could work well on the court. Having Foye, Mayo, and Brewer playing D on the perimeter would allow Jefferson and Love to concentrate on rebounding rather than shotblocking. I think we can all agree that Jefferson and Love together would tear down a lot of rebounds(maybe backboards too).
