Will Pops make the roster?

Post#1 » by Gopherguy » Tue Jul 22, 2008 11:42 pm

I really liked the idea of drafting Pops Mensa-Bosuh when he came out of college and he played pretty well for our summer league team. I wonder if he will get a decent chance to make the roster?

Our centers are (not counting Al or Love):
Collins
Booth
Maddog
Richard

Ricahard and Maddog are undersized and let's face it, in over their heads. Booth is not rotation capable and Collins is not starting material and at this stage of his career, easily replaceable. I've heard that Pops plays good defense and he showed a little offense in Vegas. He looks to have the most potential of any of these guys listed to develop into something usable. He's only 6'9" but he is 240lbs and built well. He could have more defensive impact than these other guys.

what do you think?

Pops is probably athletic enough to guard all three front court positions. Heck he can probably guard most of the bigger 2's in the league. I'd give him a contract, but I thought he has some euro contract

Its very unlikely now because his Euro contract would need to be bought out.

He had a contract with DKV Joventut for next year before he agreed to join the Timberwolves roster...

yes, but this contract had an NBA buyout clause. But if im correct in saying the clause was only until the 22nd, then its too late and he wont be joining us.

He needed to get a contract from MN today in order to not have the buy out, so it ain't happening. Unfortunate.

I thought I'd throw this out there. From Jerry Zgoda:

I read a news report today that said Pops got out of his European commitment and is talking to four NBA teams. I don’t think the Wolves are one of them; McHale didn’t seem that interested when asked about him the other day.

I would've liked to have seen Pops on the team, especially over Richard. It was a bit surprising that we didn't sign him, but if there's any truth to the 3 way where we get B-Wright it makes a lot of sense that we didn't.
