Scouting the Nba.com uses T'wolves as first model
STN believes that the Minnesota Timberwolves executive office has made nothing but moves that equate to an A or A+ this offseason.
Currently transferring old files, data from old site to new blog for everyone to read, criticize, or just raise an eyebrow or two.
Note: Every bit of the evaluations of data and its output are done by a computer program. I am a computer programmer that actually played high school basketball under the Babcock family. I have no allegiance to the Timberwolves whatsoever. As a matter of fact last season the program predicted the Wolves to win only 24 games. (That is not good news for any club.)
This season the program has predicted the Wolves to win 40.5/43 games (43.46 but some of the evaluation was based on a rookie which has limitations). If Kevin Love does not start or come off as the sixth man in the opening week of the 2008/9 season. Then we will adjust the Wolves to win 40games.
The most important player to this organization getting to the playoffs is Sebastian Telfair, he has to improve his CI-Value up around 12 or this team will never win more than 35 games. That is strictly under the assumption that Randy Foye will not be the opening day starter as point guard. If Randy can see the floor as a distributor the sky is the limit for this team. However, if he is a dribble first point guard (Stephon Marbury) the team will always have limited success depending on each game or night Foye has.
Good Luck Timberwolve fans I believe you are going to have a fun season as a fan!

CI-Values many will have a hard time understanding until all the teams are up then you can compare players to other players across the league

That assumption is wrong. Telfair will back up Foye... they might occasionally be on the court together, but the Wolves drafted Foye to start at the 1.

Foye as a PG should be good. I think sometimes he tries too hard to take that score-first PG label off himself by finding other people but it really takes him out of his game. He is most effective as a scorer first, then using that to find the open man. Sometimes he just thinks too much. He's never going to average 7+ assists per game in my opinion. It's just not his game. I'm really ok with that especially since we have a nice pass-first backup pg in telfair.

Re: Scouting the Nba.com uses T'wolves as first model
Foye was drafted as a 1, but the problem with is he has yet to define his time on the court as anything but a creator. True that can lead to an assist here and there, but it doesnt necessarily run the offense or keep the key components involved. Talent cures alot of woes, and while the article is getting blasted outside of Minnesota. People do not want to think of the wolves as nothing more than a losing team.
There is another interesting twist that is not printed ..yet.
Love - Center
Jefferson - PF
R.Gomes - SF (not a SF but creates a big inside out game)
M.Miller - SG
R.Foye - PG
McCants - 6th
Telfair - 7th
The kicker is the site believes the Wolves should resign Kirk Snyder and have him battle McCants for the backup position to the 2guard. Snyder is more versatile and actually because of that allows him to be of more value in the long run. McCants future in the NBA is in no question, but as a Wolve it might be if Snyder is resigned.

Foye has established himself also as an outside threat that can spread the floor around Al Jefferson.
Wolves couldn't wait to start Foye last season when he came back and played him through a bad start, but he gradually got better. At this early point there are 2 guaranteed starters, Al Jefferson and Randy Foye.

Foye's first year he tried to do a lot of drive and dish. He got away from that too much last year (knee; understandable, he was more focused on his Three). He needs to get back to it this year.

Re: Scouting the Nba.com uses T'wolves as first model
Hey Timberwolve fans.
Thanks for not killing this thread, I tried at the start to this team was picked as the model. It appears now that much of db is working and good or bad at least its something to gauge the season by.
If 37.71 is the amount of games won then it has been a fantastic turn around year. If your a betting guy then 32games is your over/under
Introducing the injury bug is going to be the biggest cause of concern. Last season the Injury Bug bit over 75% causing a team that had a 31 game possibility to have less than desirable year.

I've had 33 pegged as the over/under all offseason. It's good to see I'm not alone.

My estimated number has always been around 35-38, and I plan to keep it there.

So where does that leave Mike Miller?

I think we have two guaranteed starters in Al and Mike, with Foye being questionable.

I don't think Foye is questionable, but I also think Miller is guaranteed. If we win more than we did with Garnett (32) I will be pleased.

There is always someone who has to downplay the Wolves chances isn't there

I'd go with 32-35 as a realistic win total for the season there were a lot of games where we were close until well into the 4th before falling away ,with the changes and a healthy Foye picking up some of those games seems a good bet.
