What are the conditions of this years pick for the Wolves, is the pick top 6 protected or top 10 protected this year?

Basically if Miami picks 1-10 in the next draft lottery, they keep their pick. If they are picking 11th or better it becomes ours. If they do end up 1-10 then the pick they owe us is pushed to next year. If in 2 years Miami ends up picking 1-6 (top 6 protected) its theirs, anything better and its ours. If they do pick 1-6 then the pick is pushed to 2011, where there are no protections and no matter if they pick 1st or 30th it belongs to us.

Hope this cleared it up. Hope i got it right lol

Yeah, I think you got it right, except that "better" pick = lower/later pick.

While thinking about all these protections and taking other factors like the depth of next year's draft and the development of the heat, the celts our team into account it now seems clear to me, that we should pray that our guys manage to finish solid and we end up with the 11th pick at best.

Next year's draft is expected to be the weakest in several years and it appears very unlikely that we manage to grab another top3 pick in the end. That would mean, that we finally get rid of all the debts the unspeakable jaric trade.

We will still end up with at least one (Boston's) 1st rounder in 2009 and another one (Utah's) seems very likely to me. Those two picks would be enough, since our franchise doesn't need more fresh blood right now.
The Miami Pick could end up being very valuable to us, if Miami struggles again the next two or three year which is not totally out of the question (especially if Wade won't stay healthy). In addition, we would get a high draft pick, when it has the highest value.

So let us all pray, that the we lose our pick this year when it's worth the least, get Miami's pick in 2010 at the earliest.

Otherwise ending up with 4 guarenteed 1st round pick contracts in what's expected to be a very poor draft class without being able to trade up significantly would be horrible for this franchise.
