MN/NYK trade

Post#1 » by SpencerBusch » Sat Oct 25, 2008 7:45 pm

Wolves trade:
Calvin Booth
Brian Cardinal
Rodney Carney
Cash (to buy out Booth if they please)
for

Knicks Trade
Patrick Ewing Jr (6-7 SF)
Malik Rose (6-7 PF Ave 3 ppg 2 reb)

Knicks also trade Twolves a top 15 Protected 1st rounder until 2011 (top10 protected 2009, top 5 2010, top 3 2011)

Why for the Knicks?
You get Brian Cardinal who is a expiring in 2010 which could be valuable in a trade. AND he is a upgrade from Malik Rose. You also get Carney who has some potential and is a good swingman. And you get a filler in Calvin Booth who wont pretty much do anything but the Timberwolves give you some cash to buy him out if you want to.

Why for the Timberwolves?
Well you get Malik Rose who is a downgrade from Cardinal BUT is a expiring THIS YEAR! And will give us MORE caproom for the 2009 free agency (I dont believe we will get a high profile free agent in 2010). You also recieve Patrick Ewing JR who after watching him play at Georgetown and during the preseason for the Knicks he has alot of potential. Plus if he doesnt workout he will be a expiring for the 2009 season to be a filler in a trade.

Plus you get a first round draft pick i know its protected like crazy but its still a pick and it probobly wont come into effect until 2010-2011 so it will be worth more than it will be in 2009. And it is a nice peice you could use to trade up in a draft or trade for a veteran.

Collins/Madsen/Richard (if resigned after being cut)
Al Jefferson/Love
Gomes/Brewer/Miller
Mcants/Miller/Ollie
Foye/Telly/Ollie

I'd do this without the pick (which NYK can't give up for a while anyway), but I don't think NYK would agree. You're correct that they are aiming for the 2010 Free Agency, but they may need Malik and Marbury to expire to even get under the lux in 2009. Still, it's the Knicks, so they may not be that concerned with the lux, and only looking at the salary cap.

I have to confess, I was apprehensive when I saw the title, that it was going to be a Curry or Zach Randolph deal! Gotta say I was a lot happier when I saw your deal, particularly since it moves Cardinal's contract along!

Shrink i am very happy that you are the first person to reply to my post :). I have been reading this particular forum for a long time! And now i decided to register and be active poster. The reason i am very happy you were my first reply is because i have noticed you have alot of knowledge around the game of basketball. And you sound like you are a very good person and poster. Hopefully i will stay active and we will be able to discuss the Timberwolves more!

On another subject. I dont like Randolph or Curry! Actually i dislike them very much! I would only take them if they would do it for Cardinal and Cardinal only and they gave us there first round picks until 2028

Welcome to teh bordez SB. Always good to see another wolves fan on board. I dont see NY sending a 1st for this deal. It just doesnt seem likely. The deal itself is relatively solid. I liked Ewing at Georgetown and think he can be a contributor somewhere, but he and Carney are interchangeable in my eyes. Dumping Card and Booth for Rose seems like a decent deal but something tells me they wouldnt bite.

does anyone really consider Malik Allen being a downgrade to Brian Cardinal? we're talking about Brian freaking Cardinal... if I were NYK I wouldn't touch this deal. with Starbury's and Allen's expiring contracts you might get decent talent in return

I doubt New York does this since the 1st rounder is way in the future and next year they would have to be paying Cardinal double what he makes (because of the luxury tax) so they would add on an addition 12 million for next year just to add on a future 1st and player who won't get much playing time in carney and cardinal wouldn't play much either so New York would pass.

Its taken two years, and dozens of Al Jefferson/Al Harrington flubs by me to finally have someone join me on the dark side.

The Knicks just cut Ewing. If even the Knicks don't want you you know you suck.

And considering who he is and the team that cut him, you'd think they would have hung on to him as a sentimental favor or some crap.

of course I had to immediately check out the Knicks board thread on the subject:

I don't know what's wrong with me, it was instinctual.

Everybody is pissed.
