"What if Kevin McHale had taken Chicago's "Godfather" offer for KG before the 2006 draft?
Here was the offer: Tyson Chandler, Luol Deng and the No. 4 overall pick for Garnett.
What if McHale had taken G-State's "Godfather" offer for KG during the 2007 draft?
Here was the offer: Monta Ellis, Al Harrington, Andris Biedrins and the No. 8 pick (Brandan Wright) for Garnett."

They've been long rumored or at least some derivation of those with roughly the same principals. I don't know if we'll ever know for sure what was actually offered.

Re: Were these trades actually offered?
I assumed that Golden State only offered 2 out of Biedrins, Ellis and #8. If they offered all 3, then the Wolves made a big mistake.

Re: Were these trades actually offered?
My understanding is Chicago did either or. Sam Smith is a crap writer and cannot be trusted.
GS did not offer both. I remember this discussion. Looking back teams will say a bunch of crap to make it sound right. The Boston deal was the best offered that we know of.

Re: Were these trades actually offered?
Chicago actually had the #2 pick that year.
By the way, check out this RIDICULOUSNESS...
Since 1999 the Bulls have gotten the 1-4 pick SEVEN TIMES.
1999 #1
2000 #4
2001 #4
2002 #2
2004 #3
2006 #2
2008 #1
So in 9 years, the Bulls have had access to the cream of the draft crop 77% of the time.
Compare that to the Wolves, who in 20 years have gotten pick 1-4 THREE times. And the highest we have ever picked was #3. A whopping average of 15%. FU, Chicago. FU, lottery balls.

Wow PeeDee .. I never realized that about the Bulls picks.
I am continually frustrated that people seem to accept this CHI rumor, from SAM SMITH of all people!, like it was actual reality. Smith longed for KG, and had said three times that KG was actually being traded to the Bulls, and this supposedly was one of the deals.
The official line from MIN was that "We aren't even listening to Garnett offers." I'm generally skeptical of anything a front office says, but in this case, how can this not be true. In 2006, the only thing anyone even liked about the Wolves was Garnett, and his loyalty to the team. The front office needed to use a crowbar to get KG out of here the next season, and he even nixed the original deal to BOS. McHale and Taylor would have been killed if they forced KG out in 2006 when he didn't want to go, and they needed to demonstrate loyalty to KG beyond the salary. I don't believe they were trading him in 2006.
As for the GSW, if their fans are to be believed, no one thought that Biedrins was included. About half the rumors didn't have Biedrins OR Monta, and posters here kept trying to pile up all their little junk to get their (No, O'Bryant really is going to be a star .. look at his size!"). I think there is no way they were offering Biedrins + Monta + Brandan Wright. Most teams making offers said, "We want to pair KG with our top two players. You can have any of our #3-15 guys, + a pick. That's certainly doesn't fit the rumored GSW offer .. in fact, I can't think of any rumor that even suggested it. However, it would have been more than fair value for KG.

Re: Were these trades actually offered?
When Chicago got the #1 this year, I was thinking that they had had quite a bit of lottery luck in recent years.
For what it's worth, Sam Smith is full of it. I would think Chicago offered pick and Chandler, but that was a year before we even legitimately considered moving KG because Chandler was gone by the time we did. There were so many Chicago deals for KG from Smith over the years that it's hard to believe if any were actually more than conjecture.
I think Shrink and revprodeji are right about GS. I remember Harrington and the pick being the centerpiece, but don't think it was both Ellis and Biedrins.

Sam Smith asside, the Chicago offer was more realistic than the GS offer. No way GS offered that - and no way KG would have accepted to go to a GS that had no other starting quality player, let alone star, besdies Baron Davis.

It oes seem that Minnesota, Memphis, and similar teams get the big screw with the lottery.
We have never had the #1 pick. The only time we had the #2 pick was in the worst draft in modern history (Kenyon Martin #1) and when Detroit had our pick.
So I am hoping we both go #1 and #2 since our needs are totally different.
This year I would prefer Griffin/Derozan which means we need at least top 3 unless Rubio sits out. I'm sure you guys are hoping at Rubio/Derozan/Mullens/Thabeet.

Imagine having Aldridge/Roy 06 would've been great.

How's this response?
"Remember when the Lakers offered us Kobe, Shaq, Karl Malone, Gary Payton and the pick that would become Andrew Bynum for Garnett?
McHale said no! What an idiot! Imagine where MIN would be now!"
