I read on wiretap (or somewhere) that Sac would move Miller for an expiring and a young front court player. Well it sucks to give up Smith, especially because he's been playing so well, but I do this trade to get more minutes for Jefferson at the PF now, so he can improve his game there for the future. Miller has one year left on his deal (and thus expires in 2010) so he is the perfect transitional piece to Pekovic when he comes (knock on wood). Miller is in my opinion the perfect compliment to Jefferson becasue he is a tough defender inside but has an outside offensive game.
In sum, this trade would help further the development of Jefferson and Love, while not hurting our cap too much next year and none in 2010.

They already have Salmons/Garcia/Greene to play sf. Smith would be a decent fit with Hawes and Williams.

I guess I wouldn't mind it, but I think its overpaying.

I've been a fan of Brad Miller for a while, and I think he's been under-rated for quite some time. I like his hustle, his outside shooting, and his ability to pass. He's got good poise. His outside shooting would help too.

However, his defense has started to decline, and in my opinion, I don't think he's worth $12 mil next year. We'd have leverage even if there was such an owner that didn't want to save $12 mil on a team that won't touch the play-offs. SAC would benefit a great deal by moving that contract, and getting to $53 mil next season, and give them a chance at the many good free agent PG's in the 2009 Free Agency. Udrih is not the answer over there, and I have my doubts Kevin Martin can play the position, even if he gets back to his healthiest. Lastly, moving Brad Miller creates playing time for Hawes, and they have no better thing to do with this season than give him lots of minutes. This is a team you could play hardball with, and if you don't get Miller .. no harm done.

Collins has value to SAC as an expiring, and a bench center for the rest of the season if Hawes flames out (which I think could still happen). Craig Smith + Madsen for two years is probably worth $4 mil total, particularly on the 2 year time frame. Miller isn't worth the full $12, imho. If the package was Collins/Madsen/Smith, I think you could ask them to give a little incentive, not the other way around.

Shrug just my opinion, but if I had my choice with the SAC roster I'd prefer gomes who can play some 3 and some 4. They already have their primary frontcourt as Hawes\Thompson\Salmons. Gomes allows more lineup shifting, is the better player overall, and is more adaptable.

I am fairly sure the original trade would be fine. maybe include a 2nd rd pick. no need for a first. sac saves a ton of money here. the question would be smith. I think he would be a great fit for their more speedy and soft frontcourt. thompson and hawes are tall and have high post skill. cookie would be great there.

miller moves jefferson to the 4 more. I think he is better at a 5 but it gives flexability. he also would be a great mentor for love and jefferson
