Mad Dog Sees Comparisons between McHale and Phil

From Mark Madsen's blog today:

Since Kevin McHale took over, it has taken time for us to get his system and philosophy but I think that we are all finally starting to click. We are also building on the defensive principles and system that Randy Wittman put into place before the coaching change.

The one thing they both really have in common is that during practice they're both all over people and once the game starts they don't say a whole lot. It allows you as a player to relax, play loose, and just try to make a play without looking over your shoulder. They both cared a lot about effort an energy. Phil Jackson used to always talk about playing with energy.

Also some other good stuff on the latest blog entry. I like reading it -- helps remind me that these are real people.

I also never noticed this article, that listed Madsen as one of the Top Ten current players most likely to be a future coach. Cassell's on the list too.

Bill Ingram wrote: A couple of guys who always seem to be in demand are Malik Rose and Mark Madsen. It's not that they bring amazing things to the basketball court, though they are both hustle guys. It's more that they bring intangibles off the court. They push their teammates, cheer them on, and set a great example with their work ethic. Players like that often find they can do the same thing from the bench . . .because that's where they've been doing most of their in-game work anyway.

I don't buy that McHale won't be back to coach next year.

While the McHale connection might seem like a stretch, he wasn't saying McHale will be the next Jackson. As of right now, McHale is going to be our coach next year.

If we do not get a new GM then I have no reason to believe Mchale is gone. If we get a new GM then he might replace him because he will want his own guy.

Mchale should remain on staff as a developmental guy. Players seem to respect him.

Ye aI actually think McHale would be a good development/assistant coach.
