hmm, if you are gonna go Clev why not Chris Grant?

Dennis Lindsey is my top choice. His work with Houston was very good. If he is our hire you could see Dean Cooper more active either coaching or front office.

Bud is pop's right hand man. I love Pop's style. If we get Lindsey and Budenholzer I will be crazy happy. There is a legit concern whether he is ready yet. But he has been an asst with the spurs forever, so he must be ready.

Sactown has had rumors about Budenholzer, but I think they have settled on Eddie Jordan.

Good read on him

And Phoenix was looking at him before they signed Terry Porter. Oops!

Do you think if they hire from the outside, Fred Hoiberg and/or Jim Stack will choose to move on?

Would a new GM ask them to?

While we'll never know who's responsible, I've liked the trades the Wolves have made over the last two season, and if Stack and Freddie were a part of them, then I think that may a bit of a loss.

Here’s an analysis piece I wrote for Monday’s paper and what I know as the Wolves search for Kevin McHale’s successor as basketball boss continues:

http://www.startribune.com/sports/wolve ... ec8O7EyUsl

Glen Taylor today told me he hasn’t extended an offer yet and is finishing up his final research work. Usually unable not to give you an answer to a direct question, he refused to comment on what I’ve been hearing from people in the league.

I’ve been hearing the names of Spurs VP/assistant GM Dennis Lindsey and Cleveland assistant GM Lance Blanks prominently.

Both have apprenticed with the Spurs, known for their front-office smarts in winning four NBA titles and making such astute draft selections as Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili.

The Spurs hired Lindsey two summers ago to replace wunderkind Sam Presti — whom Seattle hired at the age of 30 to run their basketball operations and with pretty impressive results so far — after he spent 11 years with Houston, the last five as VP of basketball operations/player personnel.

The Wolves received permission from the Spurs, have talked to him and late in the week seemed to be doing their follow-up due diligence on him. He’s definitely on their short list.

Blanks is the guy I’m getting conflicting information about. Two sources have said they believe he’s a finalist along with Lindsey and just might be the favorite. But Cavs GM Danny Ferry told the Cleveland Plain Dealer Saturday that the Wolves haven’t formally asked for permission to talk with Blanks, who spent five years with the Spurs as scout, scouting director and TV analyst and came with Ferry from San Antonio when Cleveland hired Ferry to run the show there in 2005.

Who, and what, to believe?

As I wrote in the analysis, that Taylor seems focus on hiring from outside the organization seems to signal that McHale won’t be back as coach. I just think to get the candidate he wants, Taylor’s going to have to promise the guy that he can tackle this big job with a clean slate and not McHale’s presence looming over him.

I’m guessing the Wolves will announce something probably not this coming week, but sometime next week.

This is exciting. As much as I like Hoiberg, both these guys have far superior credentials. I'd be thrilled with either. Sometimes a clean slate is needed not only to hire better guys but also to rejuvenate a fan base. I think we all could use some "unknown" to get excited about.

Blanks was in San Antonio when they assembled their current roster and has been in Cleveland the past couple years as they've become championship level (Lebron had something to do with that too I think) and Rev has done a good job selling Lindsey. I'd love either.

I wonder if the fact that Blanks played for the Wolves, thus has a past relationship with Taylor, will play into the final decision.

Dennis Lindsey for the win.

I didn't realize Presti was only 30. Damn, I have a year and a half to weasel my way into a front office job or I can consider my life a failure. :-(

A poster on Rubechat says David Aldridge claims Lindsay to the Wolves is a done deal. I guess he said it on ESPN news, anyone else see this?

I was just about to ask if it was the same Lance Blanks, I think he was pre-Taylor though.

I dont see how it would be possible if the Spurs are still in the playoffs.

It is possible, it is just courtesy to wait until they are done. Which means that it could have linked to Aldridge, but there is a better chance that rubechat is full of it.

I think so too. I think they would have at least asked Aldridge to withhold the info till the Spurs are out of the playoffs. If its even true

I was really pumped when I saw that we were interviewing outside candidates for the job. Then I saw this:

Devilzsidewalk wrote:which David Kahn? I googled the name and every entry is about either David Kahn Jeanswear that uses the best Japanese denim to make jeans, or else another David Kahn thats written a bunch of books about code-breaking and military intelligence.

Either way we can't go wrong.

I got even more pumped then, because I figured we'd get an expert in intelligence gathering that wore nothing but Canadian tuxedos made in Japan. Disappointed to see on the next page he wasn't our guy, but I couldn't complain if they hired someone from the Spurs tree.
"A while back,'' Cardinal said, "I took a picture of the standings and texted it to Love, just to bust his chops,'' Cardinal said. "He sent me a picture back of a snowdrift.''
