Indeed. There is no chance he will come inexpensive. Is he what the Wolves need (eventually) as a third big to compete? Yes. Is he worth the investment right now? Doubtful. I'd rather find a Gorat-type later than Gorat right now.

I don't know about that. There are lot's of players competing for mid level money this year. Perhaps only three of these players will make more than the mid-level - -

Iverson
Mislap
Marion
Williams
Sessions
Felton
Ariza
Childress
Gordon
Rasheed
Dre Miller
David Lee

I imagine Gortat would come after all those players. Maybe others I can't think of off the top of my head. Even assuming 1/3 of thsoe players resign with their respective teams, there's not going to be a lot of teams offering mid level money with 2010 around the corner. A deal like Craig Smith's current deal makes more sense. Assuming Gortat signs with a team that would give him sufficient playing time, he would have a chance to really increase his value at the end of a two year deal.

Perhaps, it's hard to say what the market is going to be. I'd love to lock him up at $3m per (especially if we can jettison Craigers, who I love but becomes useless at least once Al is back if we pick up a big minutes third big), but I don't want to get locked into paying him MLE money. Guys like him will be available in a couple years.

Pekovic is a better player than Gortat. Save that money for Pekovic next summer.

Agree. Look at Krapinski's list again... lots of talent there, and how many will get the full midlevel in this market? Iverson (sells tickets)? Milsap? Maybe David Lee? The rest are older or role players... I think $2-3 million for the Hammer would be reasonable.

You guys are really off on how much players like Gortat make. Good FA centers do not sign for less than 4 mil. You might be able to get someone old, or awful, but not a young guy who was one of the 5 best backup Cs in the league.

Jeff Foster: 6 mil
Rasho Nesterovic: 8.4 mil
Dan Gadzuric: 6.2 mil
Zaza Pachulia: 4 mil (going to make more this summer as a FA)
DeSagana Diop: 5.8 mil
Mark Blount: 7.4 mil
Andray Blatche: 2.7 (screwed up his first payday by getting busted for solicitation)

That's just the eastern conference. I'm not seeing all the young Cs getting gobbled up for 2 mil.

We actually are one of the few teams that doesn't need a guy like Gortat (though I'm still not entirely comfortable with the 3 PFs experiment.)

Pekovic is a center and Al is a center. Al's offensive numbers are by far better as a C then a PF. His defense is below avg either way. But it is not due to height, but rather foot speed and BBIQ on def

I lean towards agreeing with you (thus my previous posts in this thread), but they're argument is about the current state of the economy and about how few teams are under the cap. It' pretty much inconceivable that he'll get anything over MLE.
