Despite his age, Telfair has been around a long time and hasn't shown any flashes of being starter material, he is what he is, a decent backup.
I don't think the previous poster was claiming that Lawson should go as high as Rubio, just that he's a legit pure point guard prospect. Almost everyone agrees that the only guy in Rubio's tier is Griffin, assuming Griffin isn't in a tier by himself.
As much as I would have loved to draft Rubio if we'd gotten lucky in the lottery or if we could get a fair deal to move up to 2 or 3, I don't see the idea suggested by the OP, 5, 6 and 11 for Rubio possibly being worth it. We could have any 3 of Harden, DeRozan, Evans, Curry, Holliday, or Jennings with those picks. That's a lot of talent, which we are short of. If we were trading 5, 6 and 11 for Chris Paul or Deron Williams, it might be a different story, because they are established superstar points.
I do agree that Lawson may very well be gone before 18 though.

OJ Mayo is one of the best defenders in the league, hes a two way player and hes a great passer and playmaker.

5,6,11 would be Mchale's option.
I'll go with Rubio.

McHale would actually trade 5, 6, 11 and our expirings for Jason Kidd.

Re: Rubio or Multiple picks
I do undestand the excitement and potential value of having 3 picks in the top 11, but keep in mind, no one is ramping up to move up in this draft unless it's for #1 or #2 ......
1.) To take on #5, #6, and #11 we guarantee 3 contracts to 3 unproven players. None of them are predicited to be star-caliber, and coincidently, we have lots of those starter/role players already. Let alone the reason we're in this position to start with.
2.) We do not have a legit starting PG.
3.) Lastly, having picks #5, #6, and #11 is purely fictional at this time, and therefore, I have a hard time taking it serious to start with.

Re: Rubio or Multiple picks
I'm kind of late but after thinking pretty hard about this one I'd say go with Rubio. 3 picks in the first 11 of the draft seems enticing and we would be more likely to find a star but you also have to factor in that, like dewey stated, that's 3 contracts to 3 unproven players. Not to mention they are all young and don't know how to play in the NBA yet. I think it wouldn't be a good thing having them all on the same team all needing playing time. Value wise, the picks have the edge but the most sensical thing would be to take Rubio.
