Rubio Buy-Out

Post#1 » by Jimmy103 » Sat Jun 27, 2009 6:27 am

So the buy-out is $6.5M, the NBA only allows a team to pay $500k towards that.

Couldn't the T-Wolves arrange with the sponsors a deal where they pay Rubio $6M in endorsements and the T-Wolves give free publicity? That'd be smart of them, Rubio would be a phenom with Big Al and Love.

I believe that would violate the CBA. I remember Reinsdorf trying something similar with Jordan circa 1990. The wolves could have no direct connection to any payments other than the employment contract and the 500000 for the buyout.

Although any number of sponsors can and will offer Rubio deals on their own.

perhaps we should have a rubio introduction thread and a rubio trade/contract status thread? That way it is easier. I can do it tomorrow night/(*tWSS)
