UTA MIN (improved)

Post#1 » by shrink » Tue Aug 18, 2009 2:15 pm

I'm too lazy to re-write this trade, but adding our TPE for Fesenko seems to improve it for both teams. For UTA, they save more money over the lux this year, and it makes room for OPec. For us, it provides extra incentive and helps our thin front court this year.

Harpring + Korver for Atkins + Songalia + Pecherov + $2.3 mil savings

and a simultaneous:

Fesenko ($870,000) for a TPE

Harpring + Korver for Atkins + Songalia + Pecherov + $2.3 mil TPE

Harpring $6,500,000
Korver $5,338,636

Atkins $3,480,000 (only $0.76 guaranteed)
Songalia $4,526,000 $4,818,000
Pecherov $1,547,640

For UTA, the $2.3 mil TPE and the $2.7 mil in 2009 raw cap space when Atkins is waived creates $5 mil off your books. Lots of that would be doubled for you. Songalia is a UTA-type attitude.

MIN moves Songalia, and would get some use out of Korver, who has midwest connections. You'd have to wait until the 60 days until these players can be combined in trade

MIN spends about $1 mil more by paying up-front, but moves Songalia and adds Korver.

UTA saves a ton:

$2.29 mil Deal 1 .. barely within the 125% + $100,00 cap
$2.72 mil Deal 1 .. waiving Atkins partially-guaranteed deal
$0.87 mil Deal 2 .. Fesenko for the TPE
------------------
$5.88 mil SAVED

UTA is far over the lux threshold, so the $5.88 mil doubled is $11.76 mil in 2009-10 savings, easily paying Songalia's $4.8 mil second year. And the two guys UTA gets aren't worthless. Songalia is a Sloan-type player, and OPec fits the Okur mold .. perhaps he could learn.

Adding Korver makes it a no for Utah. They're trying to compete this year, they're not giving up one of their rotation players. There are ways to do this without including Korver - and I think Utah would need their pick back as incentive.

Utah fans say its something they'd have to consider. Its just too much savings to ignore.

Anyway, I caught the video here, and I want to get Korver.

UTA fans say they are willing to pay double for Fesenko. That means they have no use for OPec, so I checked the board for offers that would fit Utah better. The first two were CJ Watson, and a TPE and a 2nd. The latter I know would be appealing to UTA in a financial deal:

UTA GIVE: Harpring + Korver
UTA GETS: Atkins + Songalia + $3.8 mil savings

MIN GIVES: Atkins + Songalia + Pecherov
MIN GETS: Harpring + Korver

PHO GIVES: TPE + 2nd
PHO GETS: Pecherov

UTA saves massively

$3.83 mil Deal 1 .. barely within the 125% + $100,00 cap
$2.72 mil Deal 1 .. waiving Atkins partially-guaranteed deal
------------------
$6.55 mil SAVED

UTA is far over the lux threshold, so the $6.55 mil doubled is $13.1 mil in 2009-10 savings, easily paying Songalia's $4.8 mil second year. Moreover, this gets the Jazz over halfway to actually getting under the lux this season! If UTA can get back some cap spavings in a Boozer deal, they may be able to save far more. If they can get close and can smell their lux sharte, they may get additional help from us by changing their mind with Fesenko for a TPE.

PHO poster says they need cheap bigs.

Keep it simple shrink.

Song+utah's pick+ Bobby Brown for Harpring

Utah does not get rid of any rotation guys. They get their own pick back as well.

I know utah wants to save, but I doubt they move Korver.

I wonder... if we bought out Korver, would he agree to go back to Utah for the minimum?

Then it is a for sure yes from them, and it would still be helpful for us as well. And we could probably get a pick from them as well if us and Korver agreed to it.

Considering the savings (and that Harpring is $13 mil of zero-production), it seems UTA fans would consider giving up Korver. Its not like he's a bargain contract anyway. Here are the comments from UTA posters from the Trade Board .. neutral posters are even more favorable.

JDubJazz wrote:It doesn't make that Jazz any better on the court. Right now, I'd pass as a jazz fan, since I think there may be better opportunities close to the deadline for Korver and Harpring's expiring deals. We may need to use them to facilitate a possible Boozer trade as well. If at the deadline, nothing better is available, then maybe. Right now though, the deal would be premature.

loserX wrote: Utah probably has to look hard at this, although we have almost literally zero need for Pecherov. If anyone wants him (Memphis?) they can have him.
