Shaq Retires a (min) Laker

Post#1 » by shrink » Sat Aug 22, 2009 4:11 am

If she was traded here, he'd certainly retire!

I understand that CLE wouldn't do this deal now, but suppose 38-year old Shaq breaks down soon. ITs pretty hypothetical but would the Wolves do this trade?

MIN GETS: injured Shaq

CLE GETS: Gomes + Songalia + Blount + $3.64 mil TPE.

I said in a different thread that I didn't think Gomes had enough trade value to move Songalia, but with enough cash, and sending them to a win-now team .. maybe there's a way.

FOR CLE, Gomes would fit nicely, though Songalia's back-up role would be limited. CLE's over the lux this year, but under (so far) in 2010.

For MIN, they move both of their contracts that extend into 2010, adding close to $6 mil in raw cap space. The net salaries, adding in Songalia's second year is a little over a million more. We probably save more on a Shaq buy-out, where our climate actually helps us in a free agent negotiation. We get more minutes to toss around, and more roster spaces.

Cleveland could get way more value than this for Shaq's expiring. They get a 8th man and a 10th man with an extra year along with the most worthless 8 Million dollar player in the NBA.

.. well, and injured Shaq would be an even more worthless $20 million dollar player in the league, except Blount's has a matchable salalry.

.. and you should include this clears $7.3 mil this season.

OK, I see what you're saying, and its not like I don't respect the trade value of an expiring.

clev wanted shaq. It is a move not motivated by money--but by winning. Something we do not understand yet Shrink.

The best part of this trade is that you called Shaq, "she". Love it. :-)

If Shaq breaks down, he won't help CLE, and I was trying to think who would trade for him then? I kind of wish Ben Wallace was not bought out so fast .. it'd have been another big contract we could have used to make a mutually beneficial deal to move Songalia.
