Hello all, Nets/Mavericks fan here.
I wanted to gauge interest in a 3-way deal I have been thinking about for a while. I'd love to hear feedback on it:
Trade ID# 5230140
L.A. Clippers Trade Breakdown
Incoming Players: Jordan Farmar, Sasha Vujacic, Ryan Gomes ('10 expiring), '10 LAL 1st
Outgoing Players: Ricky Davis, Baron Davis, '12 MIN 1st (returned)
L.A. Lakers Trade Breakdown
Incoming Players: Ricky Davis, Baron Davis
Outgoing Players: Jordan Farmar, Luke Walton, Sasha Vujacic, '10 LAL 1st
Minnesota Trade Breakdown
Incoming Players: Luke Walton, '12 MIN 1st (returned)
Outgoing Players: Ryan Gomes ('10 expiring)
Positives for MIN:
1) Get an ignition key for the Triangle
2) Regain a possible MIN lottery pick
Negatives for MIN:
1) Add post-'10 salary
Whether or not you believe the rumors, Luke would be a great fit next to the Minnesota bigmen. Walton has produced 13/6/6 in a starter's role in the past, and could repeat that production under Rambis' tutelage.
So, what do you think?

I think most of us decided that the price was far too steep to get our pick back. Most of us don't want Walton anyway.

Re: 3-Way Proposal
I'm unaware of any rumors. I wanted to see the damage we would take by getting our first back and I saw his contract. That's a 17 million dollar hit over 3 years based on the hope that our potential lottery pick will become a decent player. That's far too much of a gamble.

Re: 3-Way Proposal
This pile of trash was rejected on the trade forum, why would it be acceptable here?
Luke Walton is grossly over-paid with too long of a contract, Wolves have no interest in that pile of garbage.

Re: 3-Way Proposal
To my knowledge there has been ZERO indication that there will be any triangle being run here next year. We dont need an average player that can be just above average in a system we wont be running anyway.
Let the Lakers deal with their mistake, he isnt getting minutes in a triangle system as it is.

Re: 3-Way Proposal
I feel bad, this is not the kind of 3-way I would be thinking about for a while.
Waltons salary is not worth the pick. The only possible trade i see involving the draft pick is if we dealt Rubio for Gordon+pick.

Re: 3-Way Proposal
Luke costs MIN:
2009-10 $4,840,000
2010-11 $5,260,000
2011-12 $5,680,000
2012-13 $5,800,000
$21,580,000
Gomes costs MIN:
2009-10 $3,867,500
2010-11 $4,235,000
2011-12 $4,602,500
2012-13 $4,970,000
$17,675,000
So its a $3.9 mil salary hit. However:
1. Gomes >> Walton on the floor
2. Gomes is on a good contract
3. Gomes salary is only partially guaranteed, so the last three years could be -$11 MILLION.
4. Gomes is a good friend of Al Jefferson since they came up with the Celtics together.
I think its impossible to know exactly what that pick will be worth, but even last year, with Lvoe a rookie, no Rubio or Flynn, and Al Jefferson missing half the season, this team still wasn't in the bottom five. They are young and they will get better, particularly when they can spend their accumulated future assets (picks and cap space). I think the chance that this is a really high pick are a lot lower than the chance that this pick is in the teens.
Some MIN fans are willing to trade Gomes, but he's a positive asset. I doubt any would trade him, and also take on Luke Walton's bad deal for that pick.

I'm not sure that Gordon doesn't have more value than Rubio at this time and prolly for a while down the road.

I'd say its close, but im with Rev, if we are giving up a potential franchise changing PG, teams are gonna overpay.

Re: 3-Way Proposal
also, i know it has been touched upon in several other treads, but we have a terrible terrible roster for the triangle. Walton and Love would probably be the only two on the team who could thrive in it (gomes would be a decent piece for a triangle team, but yeah...)
