I don't think we'd be talking about giving up a lot in trade, if we're asked to take Jaric.

Look at it this way:

In 2009-10, are Gay + Jaric worth $10.4 mil? I'm going to say its close, but probably not.

In 2010-11 let's say we pay Gay market-value of $8.5 mil. Obviously $16 mil for Gay + Jaric is a bad deal -- we're better off with the cap space.

So is this deal even worth expirings? The 2009-10 expirings we'd use won't make that much in production, but the cap space in 2010-11 is valuable.

With Haddadi wanting out of Memphis too, I'd offer this:

Jaric + Haddadi for Blount (expiring)

Gay for Chucky Atkins

.. and see if they blink. You say I'm nuts, but the package they are offering has negative value.

Jaric and Haddadi will cost them $9.2 mil in 2010, and Gay will cost them market ($8-ish?). This will make them bigger players in 2010, where they could be sitting at about $40 mil. Then again, who can predict MEM's behavior after the Zach Randolph trade?

Try it this way:

2009-10 Jaric + Haddadi + Gay($12.1 mil - good production) > Blount + Atkins ($8.7 mil - no production)

.. its worth $3.4 mil for the upgrade:

2010-11 Jaric + Haddadi + Gay << $15.7 mil in cap space/payroll

I would actually be ok with taking jaric back if it meant Lima threads. At a min jaric could let Flynn play off the ball a little bit.

ha ha, I'd love to see a team with Blount, Randolph, Gay, Mayo, and AI together. What's the over/under on number of games before the lockerroom implodes?

So what you're saying is that Chandler sucks?

But really, that would be awesome. No coach could contain those guys. Quite possibly one of the worst defensive teams in the history of the game, as well.
