Haven't watched serious AAU in quite awhile. Is it still primarily pressure/pressing, zone defenses, and transition transition transition with a bit of three point bombing and minimal post play unless the team just has a monster in the block?
I appreciate what AAU can do and the exposure the kids can get, but hate the actual style of play (for the most part) and mentality it typically leads to. Maybe it is my high school coaching bias, but it always seemed to alienate itself away from team play, fundamentals, etc. I should check it out again sometime and maybe get back into it for the heck of it.
Regardless, hope it went well and good luck J2J and my fellow coaches on the upcoming seasons.

This isn't AAU. This would be regular season ball. Even in AAU, though, we run the same stuff we do during the regular season because we have pretty much the same team.
Speaking of AAU vs high school, I have a kid who's played for me the last couple years, joined another team for a national tour and just dominated for them. He doesn't get crap for minutes with the high school team, and the varsity coach told him he was removing his captain status, and will struggle to get minutes this year, all the while a lot of the big D2 schools in the area have been following him all over and are offering him some scholarship money. It kills me. Makes no sense, good enough to play for the big D2s, but not good enough to play for a middle of the road high school team.
EDIT: To be clear, that's not an editorial against all high school coaches, just frustration with one certain situation.
I'm hoping I can some say soon win the lottery or find an early morning job that pays as well as my current job so I can coach at the high school level again.
