Bill Simmons on KFAN with PA

Post#1 » by slinky » Wed Sep 2, 2009 4:27 pm

Did anyone just listen to that? It started at 1100. Hopefully we can find the podcast soon from KFAN. But Bill Simmons is very misinformed for a guy who wanted to be GM. I lost a little respect for him afer listening to him speak :)

Highlights from Bill Simmons:

-Wolves have the worst collection of bad contracts on the team right now
-Big mistake getting rid of foye, he was really turning into a bright young star before getting hurt
-The infamous, NBA free agents dont want to play in MN.
-Rubio didnt come to the NBA because the wolves drafted flynn
-Wolves should have done more to get Rubio to the team

There were a few other nuggets that made me laugh out loud in my cubicle. But I also missed the first 3 or 4 minutes. So, if someone could find the podcast that would be great, if not I will try and find it after work and add it to the thread.

Simmons is butt hurt because he didn't get the job. Just because the man has a microphone doesn't make him correct.

Simmons is a giant d-bag. Everyone realizes him being an NBA GM is a complete joke except him.

This link was also posted in the Rubio thread. Stop-n-Pop does a wonderful job of pointing out how Simmons completely contradicted himself. He's one of those guys who just says whatever is convenient at the moment, without regard to what his opinion was previously.

I like Simmons' work a lot as I've mentioned before, but I don't like when he rips on my Wolves, I think he's unfair in his criticisms

If Simmons weren't making poor arguments when he obviously doesn't have all the information, he wouldn't be well, Bill Simmons.

Just make with the jokes and "Karate Kid" references, Simmons, and stop trying to give us "analysis."

I'm a Simmons fan, I'm looking forward to his new book, and I wouldn't have minded if he became the GM when he was pushing for it. Once I read that his plan for the Wolves would have been to package Foye and the #6 for Tony Parker, I was glad that Taylor didn't play along (although I would have really been looking forward to that book).

I listened to the interview, though, and read his twitter, and it seems pretty obvious that he's not being objective. The guy seems to think he's the one who has to pull back the curtain for Wolves fans on the Rubio situation to reveal that Flynn is the reason Rubio won't ever play for us and that Kahn is a fingerpointing dillweed that didn't work hard enough to get Rubio here. It's sad when someone manages to make PA sound like the rational one in an argument over a 'Sota based team, but that's exactly what he managed to do.
"A while back,'' Cardinal said, "I took a picture of the standings and texted it to Love, just to bust his chops,'' Cardinal said. "He sent me a picture back of a snowdrift.''

SOUR GRAPES.

1. As a fan, I'd rather have Rubio in two years than Wilson Chandler/Hill (or DeRozan) or Shane Battier plus extras. Even with perfect hindsight, the "draft Rubio and immediately trade" scenario looks bad.

2. Kahn didn't do enough? Really? Anyone in his position would have (and should have) licked Joventut/Rubio shoe in order to get the kid over now. It didn't work, but I haven't heard of a reasonable approach that wasn't tried.

3. Why would Minnesota fans want a GM (Simmons) that subscribes to the belief that endorsement opportunities only exist in large market cities, and that free agents are all about location and not the $. It sounds to me like Kahn found at least a few takers, and included those monies in his offer. Didn't Hedo leave a championship calibre team in a warm weather climate to play for Toronto this off-season?

Bill Simmons is so two faced. When he does an interview with someone from the Wolves (Kahn, Love) he talks so highly about us and agrees with about everything they have to say, he makes us sound like were winners. He didn't get the job here, he bashes Kahn, trading Foye, Rubio situation, i mean what else could the Wolves do to bring Rubio over here? we tried everything and it ended up being Rubio's choice.

Even if it is true that big name players don't want to come here, he doesn't need to say that, $$$ talks Bill, good point Steve_Holiday bringing up Hedo Turkoglu signing, a perfect example. ESPN people can really get under peoples skin, they just crave the negative things.

I think there is some personal beef here (maybe from Kahn's writing days?), he bashed Kahn from the very beginning, when he was just one of the candidates. And after Kahn was hired, Simmons never gave him a benefit of the doubt.
