Yep, I'd still draft the same. I was an early proponent of the Rubio-Flynn Experiment, or at least playing them 10-12 minutes together, and that was back in the days right after the draft. Now that we have 2 or 3 years to fine-tune our running game while Ricky matures physically (and plays off the ball at times) I think the Flynn-Rubio Experiment may be even more likely to succeed when Ricky does come over. I LOVE Flynn, but am not sure if he will become a franchise PG, but who knows?

My best-case scenario at this point is that Rubio comes to the Wolves as a missing piece to a team that has shown great improvement but still has an important role for him to step into, making Flynn one of the most explosive 6th men in the league while getting close to 30 mpg off the bench.

Of course, we may wind up trading 1 of the 2, and we'd probably get good value, but I'm all for the Rubio-Flynn Experiment, whenever we finally get a chance to give it a shot.

Ouch.

Cmon now brotha. I don't care where they were drafted. As an overal selection I think the collection of talent on that trade was the best possible. At least when I look back at my draft board. As I had lawson pretty high in the PGs for value @ 18 he would have been very solid so passing over the early pgs for one of the talents who dropped late is big value in filling the pg position imo. In fact MN could probably have swapped with some incentive to PHI and taken holiday, but I didn't wanna make it overly complex.

Love for lopez is a wash, but lopez probably fits better with Al. I like love more with rubio(running team) too

My draft board didn't have much seperation in the "true" PGs. I would have been equally happy with any of holiday, flynn, rubio, jennings, or lawson.

as you somewhat mentioned it - he made trades to assure us picks in the future and as it seems the next draft class will be much deeper than this years class. so what do you prefer? ;)

but here's the kicker: I would have looked for trade down options but instead of trading down to teams being closely behind us in the lottery, I would have tried to call some non lottery teams to see what they would have offered because teams like GSW, NYC and TOR didn't really have anything to offer which would've impressed me (unless GSW would have somehow offered Magic v2.0 or Biedrins but that was really unlikely).

You are nuts. No way you would take the same players. No way in hell.

No way in the world you don't either use one of those picks and Mike Miller to move down...and target Harden and or get a Center somehow.

Mike Miller to Oklahoma and a flip flop of picks would have probably got you Harden! And you could have taken Curry and kept Foye. No way in hell you take the same two guys and then draft another point guard later on!

But doing what you did and taking a player that was not going to come there like we took Yi Jianlian is a waste of time and a bust of a lottery.

With what you did last year moving Mayo for Love which to me was another curious move, your team could ill afford to make another mistake again so soon after moving Kevin Garnett!

Trust me, I am a Bucks fan. I know!

Mayo is over-rated hot garbage that gets his stats off inflated minutes and volume shooting. No thanks. Clearly you don't understand that trade.

Stephen Curry is another pass as well.

Unfortunately, it takes two teams to make a deal. OKC didn't seem like they were interested in playing and they got the guy they wanted anyway. I don't think they would really have much interest in Miller. There were also rumors of Minny offering a package of Love and #5 to MEM to move up to #2 (probably to get Rubio) but MEM never agreed to the terms.

I believe Kahn explored all options and, in the end, he took the two players with the most value at 5 and 6.

I think that's what Memphis wanted, I hope that's not what we were offering.

As far as Rubio goes, I was fine with coming over in 2 years on rookie scale but with this new info out that it might be 3 years and even then we have to negotiate, I'm to the point where I have to think twice. I still love having a guy with Rubio's upside, though.

Same here.

Your probably right. Seems like there were a lot of rumors/options thrown out (Love/5 for Gay/2, 5/6 for 2, etc.). Who knows what was actually offered on either side. But I think the general point still stands - that Kahn was exploring all options.

OKC wanted Jefferson in a package (My understanding was Jefferson for 3 and Green) But we refused. (I would not want to be the one to team Jefferson with Durant)

If I were to do the draft over for the Wolves, looking at the what has transpired and the summer league, and knowing that Rambus is coming in with a top-notch coaching squad, I would have tried to bring in as many young talented players as I could for him, tomorrow be damned.

2009 Draft

#5 Trade pick to NY (who drafts Rubio or Curry) for #8 and Chandler.
#6 Jonny Flynn (PG)
#8 DeMar DeRozan (SG)
#18 Taj Gibson (PF/C)
#28 Wayne Ellington (SG)
#45 Taylor Griffin (SF)
#47 Nick Calathes (PG) (hold him for a year or two, then make him backup PG)

So out of this you get:

Jonny Flynn (your starting PG)
Nick Calathes (dedicated backup PG, in a year or so)
Wilson Chandler (SF)
DeMar DeRozen (SG/SF)
Wayne Ellington (SG - let the three fight for minutes at the wings)
Taj Gibson (play him at center with love and Jefferson)
Taylor Griffin (a backup small forward and enforcer type)

Youth movement is instantly in place. Team becomes nearly as exciting as a team like OKC. All it takes is one easy trade to NYK, that was totally on the table for them.

Starting Lineup would be:

Jonny Flynn (PG)
DeMar DeRozen (SG)
Wilson Chandler (SF)
Kevin Love (PF)
Al Jefferson (C)

Taj Gibson at #18? I'd rather take the trade we made. And what happened to #28?

I would still draft Rubio at #5, he will be something special.

At #6, I wanted to trade down on draft night and I still would have. I would have targeted Gerald Henderson with a trade down, I think that he will be a stud. I was upset with the Flynn pick, but as of now I'm indifferent since I think Flynn will be a lot better than I expected.

Still my ideal draft
#5 Rubio
#8 Henderson (#6 for Chandler and #8)
#18 trade pick, that's a very good trade for us
#28 patrick mills, he'd be my insurance guy... I have no idea why he fell so much, he'll be a solid player IMO
#45 Danny Green
#47 either trade or draft a foreigner like Norel

-Do the rest of Kahn's offseason trades and
also
1.Gomes for an expiring and a future pick
2. atkins/Songalia for expiring (I think it will still happen)

This year we would role with
Rubio?/Sessions/Mills/Brown
Henderson/Brewer/Green/Wilkins
Chandler/Brewer/Green/Wilkins
Love/Jefferson/Cardinal
Jefferson/Hollins/Pecherov
-but that's just me and it has some players that I really like in mills, green and henderson added. I'm not a Wilson Chandler fan, but I think he would do decent and I think his value is what it would take to move up from #8 to #6

Skoff, NY would have only made the Chandler+8 trade for Rubio. Not for the 6th. So if that is what you wanted to do then take Rubio out and put Flynn in.

I am unsure what Kahn does with Gomes. This team lacks jump shooters and proven scorers. Perhaps Gomes is part of the plan right now?

I think Gomes is part of the plan for this year. Whether he continues to be part of the plan will be decided next offseason.

I voted with the minority a while ago, "If I knew Rubio info, I'd now pick differently", and never explained myself. Maybe it's a glass half empty kind of answer, but I'd describe the last couple months of Rubio as near-worst case, and if I had it to do over I'd prefer the Wolves take Curry or DeRozan even though I was ecstatic when they took Ricky.

I would have done Jefferson for Green and Harden if that was on the table.
