Lopsided
Rambis wanted his team to limit Denver's points in the paint and fast-break points. The Nuggets outscored the Wolves 58-26 in the paint with Jefferson missing and won the fast-break battle 37-15.
"Those aren't good combinations if you're expecting to win," Rambis said.
Twosome
Point guards Ramon Sessions and Jonny Flynn played together Tuesday for their first extended time in the preseason.
They played for the fourth quarter's first 5 1/2 minutes, each playing point guard and off the ball some. Flynn played matched against former North Carolina guard Ty Lawson, whom the Wolves drafted with the 18th pick last summer and then traded to Denver.
"I think it's definitely going to work out," Flynn said. "It just takes time."
Words on Rubio Free-agent guard Mustafa Shakur is gone, dismissed in Monday's cuts. But before he went, he offered his opinion on Ricky Rubio, the would-be Timberwolf. "He has huge upside," said Shakur, who played his last game in Spain last season against Rubio's DKV Joventut team. "At 17 or 18, he'd be playing professionally for three, four years. Obviously, he's light years ahead. I thought he was pretty quick going up and down. You look at his ability to see the floor, the way he plays defense and he's 6-3 or 6-4 and looks like he's still growing...that's great upside." Etc.
• Wolves basketball boss David Kahn entertained Dr. Yolanda Brooks, a Dallas-based clinical psychologist who has worked with NBA and NFL players, at Tuesday's game. The two discussed a player-development position intended to help Wolves players with off-court issues.
Kahn said the team still is considering candidates for another player-development position focusing on basketball skills. Former Timberwolves Darrick Martin, Tony Campbell and Chris Carr have interviewed for the job.
• Kahn said he expects a resolution with veterans Antonio Daniels and Mark Blount this week. He gave both players permission to stay away during preseason while their agents seek trades or contracts elsewhere. Expect the Wolves to cut ties with both players.
i hope its a trade, at least we got something back
