Harris is probably more expendable than many may be aware.

-T.Williams has been looking good at PG (as well as playing SG,SF,PF)
-Yi in particular does better when he doesn't play
-Nets have Dooling, Alston and T.Williams that can play PG
-Harris has developed a bit of an ego during his tenure


I would be excited with any deal that:

-Got rid of Najera
-Landed us mostly expirers (enabling us to land 2 max FAs)
-Got us at least one high-end prospect and maybe a pick

Harris is a Wisconsin native... what about...

Harris, Najera, $3m, $1m TPE
for
Jennings, K.Thomas, Ridnour, Future pick

That meets my criteria above, while Milwaukee adds a hometown PG that could help them win now and keep fans.

I've long contended that Ricky Rubio is unlikely to be traded because he fits MIN so well, as a team that needs to hope for a superstar, and doesn't mind losing games this year because they are rebuilding and waiting for players to expire before they make a cap space splurge. This set of circumstances generally means Rubio has more value to the Wolves than he would to most other teams.

However, as I wrote about on another forum for the MIN-NJN opener game thread, when it comes to team finances, the Nets and Wolves are mirror images.

Devin Harris/Al Jefferson ... young talented #1/#2 star on a long but under-market contract

Brook Lopez/Kevin Love ... Exciting potential star from last year's lottery.

Terrence Williams/Jonny Flynn ... Optimistic about this year's pick

(Rashad McCants)/Sean Williams .. regrettable pick from the past who had potential

Bobby Simmons, Battie, Hassell .. Blount, Daniels, Cardinal .. expirings for 2010 cap space.

The Nyets have Courtney Lee from the rebuilding Vince Carter trade, we bought Sessions and Hollins, and they are optimistic about CDR, while we hope for Rubio. We'll both probably get to a spot where we have max money for the 2010 free agency. We moved our Songalia, they are still trying to move their Najera. Lots of similarities.

Anyway, my point here is that this is a team that shares all the same qualities that makes Rubio so valuable to the Wolves .. plus he's more likely to show up earlier for the big lights and big city. He's locked on a rookie deal, so the two free agents wouldn't be doomed either.

Rubio is a wild card, and almost impossible to place a trade value on. However, with the Nets team characteristics, a deal based around Rubio + Flynn or Session - for - Devin Harris + ??? might appeal to both teams.

The idea doesn't thrill me. I'd rather we spend assets on a swingman if we're using the cap space. Unless we're trading for Chris Paul.

Yes. Rubio/Flynn are the long term plans at the pg position. Likely in december Sessions+Cardinal could be packaged. Our assets will be used for a swing player. Not for a pg. I like harris, but he is not what we need.

I like Harris as a player, but I LOVE him as a contract. $35 mil for four years is $8.75 mil a year.

I can't disagree with people who say we don't need a PG, especially when we have three cheap young PG's that all have the chance of doing well. Devin Harris though is already very good, and he's getting better.

I'm not all gung ho here either. I can't effectively project how good Rubio will be (or Flynn, to a lesser extent). However, Devin Harris was never a name I had considered, so I thought I'd bring it over.

Although I don't buy this, if it were true, I'd be fine with a package centered around Flynn or Sessions and expirings. Harris is basically the best-case scenario of what either of those two could become, plus a Harris/Rubio backcourt could actually work well with their size and defensive abilities.

then I was gonna type a bunch of stuff, but clicked on the topic and basically this was what I was gonna say:

1. Terrence Williams will never be a full-time point guard.

2. When Harris is out someone has to get his shot attempts, hence why an injured Harris leads to more shot attempts for Yi... It should be noted however that Yi's statistics in games without Harris are garbage numbers in the truest sense of the word though as they do not lead to more Nets wins... More often than not when Harris does not play the Nets get blown out.

3. Alston has played rather poorly, and Dooling is still recovering from hip surgery... I'm not sure where you're getting they have made Harris expendable... It's highly likely that neither one of them returns next season.

4. What ego?
