Wolves moving to Xcel Energy Center?

Post#1 » by Trueblood » Thu Dec 24, 2009 9:44 pm

Sorry if this has been posted before but I keep seeing a poster from another board talk about how the Wolves are going to want to leave Traget since it's getting old and that they would move to St. Paul. Is this true? I know that there was once talk about Taylor buying the Wild and having both teams in one building at one point but I haven't heard anything about that lately.

The Timberwolves lease at the Target Center doesn't expire until 2025.

Thanks Doc. I wonder how iron clad the lease is?

I imagine its pretty iron clad. I believe the team is still under the original lease agreement, since the Target Center has only been around since 1990 and was essentially built for the Timberwolves.

That's gonna be ooooold then that lease is up. The Wolves better be good so they can get a new arena when that lease is done.

LOL man this topic got me excited. I'm close to xcel. I'd be at wolves games a lot more often if that was the case. Saint Paul needs more crap. Maybe the Vikes could get a new stadium here.

You don't actually hear anything about the Target Center from the Wolves. It's fine. It's not as gorgeous as the Xcel, but it's not a bad arena. Wolves won't be moving anytime soon.

Target Center is a very nice place since they did the seating/scoreboard change and the floorboard replacement. I see no reason it won't last for another 15 years and still be nice. I got a chance to play on the court twice and it was a little lumpy and worn rather strange. Hopefully i'll get a chance to play on the new one, although i hate how they got rid of the parquet

Target Center is great for basketball. It's lousy for pretty much anything else, but it's great for basketball.

concerts are pretty hit or miss. the days of Metrodome Wolves were a pretty neat novalty that i think would wear off quick, but NCAA games in the dome are great

I think Taylor paid for that new scoreboard so I think he's vested in staying at TC.

LOL true. I used to have to transfer buses in downtown Saint Paul to get to school. Coming home sometimes it would be like 7:00 and I couldn't get in any damn buildings downtown. It would be dead winter and I would have to wait for 45 minutes to catch my bus and there was nowhere cool I could go. Everybody shut down like clockwork, I hate to wait in this stupid boring bus area unless I could get in a building before 6 and hide out until my bus came. It makes no sense.

It really depends on the seats you have, but they're great if you have good ones.
"A while back,'' Cardinal said, "I took a picture of the standings and texted it to Love, just to bust his chops,'' Cardinal said. "He sent me a picture back of a snowdrift.''
