There are no roster limits, max or min, during the summer. However, your team will carry cap holds at the minimum price up to 12 until your roster is fileld with 12 players.

Also, at the start of the season, the roster minimum is 13. that would be for 12 active and one inactive player (though you don't need a summer cap hold for #13). A team may drop to as few as 11, for example, due to a trade, but they have two weeks to bring their roster limit back up to 13.

Another interesting fact about roster minimums: the NBA guarantees a league-wide average of 14 players per team, otherwise they face a surcharge.

I would also look at more than just the teams with cap space -- there are others that affect its value as well -- consumers.

Last year was another rough one for many NBA owners. Most teams continue to lose money, and many owners saw their net worth drop considerably in the economic slowdown. On top of this, right now we have 14 teams over the lux, and the lux will drop $7 mil, just when owners are being most squeezed.

The market for 2010 cap space isn't just free agents, or even teams that want free agents. Its teams like PHI. This year, at $63,688,227, they are safely $6 mil under the lux. Next year, if the lux drops to around $63 mil, they are currently at $66,363,607 plus they'll have may have another $3 mil for their lottery pick, so they'll be $6 mil over the lux. $6 mil over could cost them $15-16 mil, so they'd be very anxious to trade for some raw cap space (or expirings before the Feb deadline).

Anyway, my point is that its supply and demand. You're right that there will be more supply, but there will also be more demand as well.

CHI, MIN, and New Jersey for example. In that scenario the cap space allows you to even attempt to sign the player, but it doesn't do anything beyond that, because MAX contracts have just that, a maximum limit. We will need another way to convince someone to join us over other similar opportunities.

How is this any different than any other year? This argument is based on a very simplified statement that money isnt all thats important to free agents. Unless I am missing something?

Are you saying Rudy is a top seven player in the league, or Dirk isn't a top seven player in the league? 'Cause either way I disagree.

He's saying that putting Rudy in the same tier as Dirk is ridiculous.

That does make more sense, doesn't it? I read it as an independent post, rather than responding to mine for some reason.
