CLE-WAS-MIN

Post#1 » by shrink » Mon Jan 25, 2010 6:14 am

CLE GIVES: Ilguaskis + Anthony Parker + 2011 CLE 1st (top 10 prot) + $3 mil to buy-out Zyd
CLE GETS: Jamison + Sessions + Hollins

WAS GIVES: Jamison + Mike James
WAS GETS: Ilguaskis + Anthony Parker + saves $3.9 mil in payroll ($7.8 mil with lux) + $3 mil to buy-out Zyd

MIN GIVES: Sessions + Hollins
MIN GETS: Mike James + 2011 CLE 1st (top 10 protected)

WHY FOR CLE: This gives them the high-scoring Jamison at PF, Hollins as a back-up center, and Sessions to fill their single PG spot. Its a win-now move, in an attempt to get home court advantage and increase their chances of a championship and keeping LeBron.

WHY FOR WAS: Moving Jamison's $28 mil over the next two years helps a lot. Parker is an OK player at $2.6 mil/yr in his own right, and the deal saves $3.9 mil in payroll ($7.8 mil with lux) this year which more than pays for his salary, plus $3 mil in cash. Total savings on the deal?

$10.8 mil+ 2009-10 ($3.9 x 2 for lux) + $3 mil cash (+ any buy-out savings on Ilgauskis x2)
$10.4 mil 2010-11 no Jamison, plus Parker
$15.1 mil 2011-12 no Jamison
$36.3 mil+ TOTAL SAVINGS

WHY FOR MIN: Use Sessions to clear $6.3 mil cap space for 2010, and $6.7 for 2011, plus they can hope LeBron doesn't re-sign, and the CLE pick is worth something. A pretty nice return for our 2010 MLE money.

it's a good way to clear cap, but that's all it really is.

Clearly the cleveland pick will probably be around 30, or way at the end of round 1. I guess I wouldn't be opposed to it. It's not like Hollins is worth a damn.

I kind of think Sessions makes for a good backup though, to either flynn or rubio. He doesn't seen to whine about his role and he's alright as a backup.

That Cleveland pick could be very interesting if Lebron bolts. I'd love to move Hollins right now, but I'm not in a rush to move Sessions, IMO Flynn should maybe be moved in the 2010 draft to Indiana for their pick and I want to keep Sessions around in case that happens.

Is there another way we can help this deal out without giving up Sessions for Mike James? (whom I'm completely positive we'd give the Blount treatment to, thus giving us one PG). If we could move Gomes and maybe get one of WAS lower paid guys (blatche, young), I'd like it more.

This ^^^^

LeBron is not guaranteed to stay, which makes that pick a much bigger question mark. I might suggest Cleveland would insist it was top 15 protected, then 12, 9, 6, and top 3 with a 2nd round + cash as compensation in the last year. Which is fine by me, if they lose LeBron that pick becomes pretty valuable. If not, it's just 2 guys we signed in the off season. Sessions is not a huge loss with Flynn and Rubio dotting our future. We'll figure something out next year.
