Anyone know what date of the draft lottery? Those results should bring the answers to many questions surrounding this team into focus.

Re: Trading Ryan Gomes contract
Or we could bite the bullet on a larger deal. Take back even more salary:
Teams like:
PHO- Richardson
NO- Peja
IND- Dunleavy, Murphy
Det- Prince
UTAH- Kirilenko
NYK- Curry
Bottom line is we have a lot of options. But to Shrink' question, I think Gomes can be used in a variety ways. But I think in each of the ways he is more available in a trade to another team then he is for our own cap space.
(Keep in mind though, that I dont like the 10-12 million dollar options out there this year in FA, including Rudy Gay)
P.S. Speaking of Gomes trades, does anyone else want Boston's 2012 and/or 2013 1st round draft pick? They could be very bad in a couple of years.

You've got it exactly right. If we don't waive him before 6/30 (before the draft, before free agency, and before most trades take place), then his full contract is guaranteed for the next three years. He has a player option in 2012-13.

I don't know why I didn't realize this earlier because it seems so obvious, but no one's said anything, so I will. If our plan is to trade Gomes and have him be instantly cut, why didn't we just move him for an expiring contract before the deadline? Instead of offering $3 million in cap savings + the right to pay Ryan Gomes $2.5 million for nothing, we could have just offered a full $4 million in raw cap space with no expensive strings attached.
Unless A) No team would give us an expiring contract for Gomes or B) Kahn and Co. are incredibly short-sighted (possible, given their handling of the Atkins contract), the fact that Gomes hasn't been moved already means he never will be.

I like the thought of this trade, i was thinking of one kind of like this:
R. Gomes/J. Flynn/R. Hollins/W. Ellington/1st (11th)/2nd (32nd)/2nd (44th)
-for: T. Ford/D. Jones/R. Hibbert/1st (5th)
IND get a nice team to build around:
Flynn/Price/Collins
Rush/Ellington
Granger/Gomes
Hansbrough/Thompson
Aldrich/Varnado
+ C. Aldrich (11) + J. Varnado (32) + S. Collins (35) + D. Thompson (44)
MIN get their starting C in R. Hibbert, this could open the possibilty of trading A. Jefferson
Sessions/Ford
Turner/Tucker
Brewer/Aminu/Jones
Jefferson/Love
Hibbert/Jordan
+ E. Turner (2) + A. Aminu (5) + J. Jordan (24)

I have to say that I was very surprised that Gomes was not traded before the deadline. Maybe Kahn was asking too much, because I would be very surprised if a contender wouldn't have brought in Gomes for the play-offs, and decide what to do with him later. Perhaps Gomes is part of rev's "deal in principle?" Kahn keeps talking about the wolves having a lot more cap space than I'd estimate if we were planning on keeping Gomes. I hope that he isn't simply going to be cut, because that would frustrate me as much as cutting Atkins partially guaranteed deal did.

Re: Trading Ryan Gomes contract
I think a Flynn + Gomes package to IND may have some legs. I think this would help take care of two things for the Pacers - helping them get under the lux, and finding a good young PG to grow with their youth, when there isn't one in the draft unless they'd win Wall.
My concern for MIN has been that after last year's PG-rich draft and free agency, that there are only a handful of teams that haven't solved their PG issues. The market is saturated, and when we want to move a PG (either because we draft Wall, or have Rubio coming over), we won't get a good price for whoever we trade. On the other hand, IND may be thinking that with all the big men in this draft, Hibbert may not carry the value he did this year. I think the two teams have a lot of potential as trading partners.

We are to believe that Deng has been pulling the wool over the eyes over his British schoolmasters and authorities since he was 8 years old, in some scheme that would help him play in the NBA when he grew up? Sounds about as credible as the rumors that Greg Oden is actually 40 years old.
Rev - it does seem like Deng has been living in England or America since he was 8 (1993). Six years of age difference doesn't seem realistic. I've actually never heard this rumor except from you mentioning it, and I don't get anything notable when I `google' it. It sounds like his dad had some position of authority in the old Sudan government, so it is possible, but I don't see any reason to not believe he is the age he says he is.

I think I might have been the first one to post the rumor that Deng was old, I got that rumor from a completely unreliable source.

I've heard this rumor too and even dropped it on the Bulls board once, but when called out I could not find anything to back me up on it. Even a google search displayed nothing. I thought it was something I pulled from a Simmons trade value column or something.
I still can't believe he's as young as he's listed though.
