maybe he actually DOES hate wally. read Tirion's articles. wally seems like a guy who would be easy to hate...without considering the color of his skin. the only 'racial spin' ever put on this story - outside of the bleacher blog - was from people who believed what they wanted to about the incident (or people who read into the articles what they wanted to read...Tirion, SSUB?).

the real reason these issues won't die is because athletes punching each other is always a big story. Remember the Bill Romonowski punch (w vs b)? The Tom Cable attack (w vs w)? Steve Smith punching Ken Lucas (b vs b)? Lagarrette Blount (b vs w)? All of these stories were big news, and none of it was due to the race of the people involved.

Seriously? How difficult is this to understand?

KG punching Wally because [maybe] he doesn't like Wally IS READING INTO THE EVENT...ironically the same sort of thing you apparently disdain as long as it's being done by others. Maybe he doesn't dislike him and this event occurred for the same reason why it happened with Rickert, Peeler, etc. What Tirion put forth is a possible reason why "KG hates Wally" came about. Another possible reason would be that it's ****ty, lazy "journalism" that has only proliferated since the advent of "Fair and Balanced".

Rondo apparently shares some similarities with Wally, how come KG doesn't "hate" him? Oh that's right, you conveniently "forgot" to quote that part and respond to it.

I really don't understand. Are you trying to make it this difficult? This is about how the incident was reported, explained, etc. Was Romo ever said to personally dislike those he fought with? No? Than why would you believe it's even relevant?

The only thing I'm taking issue with was Tirion's claim that the media put a racially motivated spin on the story. I have never read anything from the actual media that remotely implies that. Even if KG didn't like Wally, that isn't grounds for it to be racially motivated. You put a dispute against a white man and a black man, and no matter what you will get some jokers (fans and observers) trying to claim racism. That doesn't mean that the media planted the idea.

If I see a legit article that suggests, even slightly, racial tension, then I'll change my tune.

I have no idea why you keep coming back to the 'like/dislike' thing. It was reported many times, and backed up with quotes, that the two had issues with eachother. The snippet below describes it as a 'rift:'

From the Daily Herald (Arlington Heights, IL):
"We're two totally different people," he said. "From two totally different parts of the Earth. I think people wanted it to be more than what it was, like we hated each other. We spoke every day, had conversations, cracked jokes, just like every other teammate in here."

After leaving town, Szczerbiak did not downplay the rift between him and Garnett.

"There's always something that's bugging him," Szczerbiak said. "I just tried to come to work every day with a smile on my face. Play basketball. Sure, I took a few ill-advised shots. ...Maybe I didn't handle it the way he wanted, when he yelled at me. I just think we're polar opposites in a lot of things. I don't know what he wants."

It's clear that something other than just a heated moment at one practice was in play. Garnett's quote attempts to downplay the matter. The journalist gets a quote from Wally showing that there was indeed something more.

Please explain to me how this has anything to do with race. What does Garnett's reported liking or disliking of Rondo or Big Baby has anything to do with the reporting of this incident?
