Fernandez Playoff Update
I thought I would give a man on the scene update on Rudy for my fellow Wolves fans, as he has been the topic of some trade discussions on the board. Probably unnecessary but here we go: lousy. Pure lousy. Any of you who has been watching the Blazers/Suns series already knows this. What concerns me most is that Nash is guarding Rudy quite often and Rudy can't make the Suns pay for the size mismatch. This was also really obvious during the Lakers game at the end of the season. Rudy was owning Artest, which it seemed like he also did last year during the playoffs, Jackson put Farmar on Rudy for the rest of the game and Rudy disappeared. So the question becomes do you think that Rudy's recent inability to do anything against a smaller, quicker guard bodes ill for any real contribution down the line or would you still be interested in him?
This of course reignites the second question of how much Portland would want for him, which was already discussed at great length. To back up the "too much" discussion: the cheering in the Rose Garden goes up an octave from little girls screaming whenever he does anything. I have never experienced anything like it in a stadium before. You are at a normal game and all of a sudden a Justin Bieber concert brakes out for a minute. Also, my girlfriend was a disinterested basketball fan at the beginning of the season and now we have a plant named Rudy and she yells at the TV( especially lately). So to conclude this overlong, redundant essay, he probably gives you great financial returns for a guy making $1.2 million.
If this question makes you hate me I'm sorry and can only offer one excuse: "es mi primer dia"

I forgot to clarify that I am actually a big fan of Rudy. He brings creativity to the game similar to great soccer players and Manu Ginobli. I'm just dissapointed and worried by his recent playoff performance.

Re: Fernandez Playoff Update
I think he got overhyped in Portland. He can't really create his own shot, doesn't play great defence and while the rest of his game is alright I don't think he's someone you want to start.

I watched a lot of Rudy, and I am dissapointed for his attitude in the playoffs, but I still want see him playing in another team with another system (coach).
BTW, he can really create his own shot.

At the moment, I honestly think Portland fnas think the Rudy experiment has been an abject failure. If Kahn and Rambis are keen on him, I dont think it would cost too much to get him, as he has been quite poor recently.

He reminds me of Ryan Gomes, in that he seems uninterested on the court at times. I'm still intrested in getting him for the right price. But I think he'll head back to Spain.

I think he will continue in the NBA one year more at least, but he sounds as Barça's player for 2010-11. This summer, Barcelona FC has presidential polls, and one candidate are saying he has signed a "right of first refusal contract" with Rudy (only for FIBA teams, obviously).
BTW, surely, he is more cheap than last week and Portland's fans has lost is love affair with him.

Since he's been here in the NBA, I've never seen any indication he can create his own shot when guarded by a mere average defender. Still, the guy has some value and can help the right team.
Like most players that feel they are not getting enough run ... it comes down to defense. If you can play defense, most any coach will find a way to get you on the floor.
Flip response to Love wanting out, "He has no reason to be upset, you're either a part of the problem or a part of the solution"

OK, perhaps this season (surely), but you could watch him doing it last year.
I remember at the beginning of this season, many NBA experts have considered him as one of the best (probably) 2009-10 sophomores, but finally he was a disaster since his back's surgery.

Re: Fernandez Playoff Update
He was just overrated by the NBA side. He was never one of the top players in Europe. He's doing fine considering that he was just overrated. He came from a small club in Europe and he's never been more than a role player on Spain's national team.
The expectations were just out of whack. It was Pritchard that started that when he said, "Rudy is the best player in Europe" in the Portland papers. When in reality, he was probably not even a top 20 player in Europe at the time. Unfortunately for Rudy, that placed much too high and unrealistic expectations on him.
He would be smart to leave Portland. Minny would be a good possibility actually, as would any other club that would have lower expectations than they did in Portland. Some team that is just expecting a guy that can help and contribute and maybe develop into more than that as time goes on, due to his obvious talents. Instead of Portland which was expecting some kind of superstar, "the Jordan of Europe" which was just crazy talk.
He's a rotation player, but not more than that. He wouldn't be the star on any big European club either, so at the same time Rudy needs a big attitude adjustment. He's super egotistical and has a warped sense of reality. He was the star of Joventut, a small to mid-sized European club. If he was in any big European club he would just be a role player too most likely. So for Rudy to succeed in the NBA (which he is capable of doing) he needs to also adjust his outlook as well.

I was thinking Wayne Ellington and Rudy Fernandez would be a little redundant. If I were to trade for Fernandez, I would want to trade Ellington first. I think Fernandez still has some upside, but that injury really set him back. In order for this trade to work, I would want Portland to pay the difference in salaries. This trade really isn't a life or death situation. I'm talking about trading a guy who played 18 minutes per game on a team that had only 15 wins. This move could encourage Ricky Rubio to want to play in Minnesota. However, if Rudy Fernandez has a negative experience in Minnesota, than that could influence Ricky Rubio's decision when he wants to come over.

Re: Fernandez Playoff Update
I don't know Ellington, but Fernández has some strengths suitables for Rubio's way of play, as good hands, mental quickness and offball play.
