OT: Big Ten Expansion?

Post#1 » by Klomp » Tue May 11, 2010 2:54 am

We are in Big 10 country, so I think its okay to post here.......

WHB 810 is reporting that Missouri, Nebraska, Notre Dame and Rutgers have been offered invitations to join the Big Ten.

810 cites "multiple sources close to the negotiations." The station reports that nothing can be finalized until the conference's presidents meet in Chicago in June.

Keith Mann, an assistant athletic director in media relations at Nebraska, referred to the report as "another bit of media speculation that's out there."

"There's been a lot since this whole process started," Mann said. "But no, we don't have anything official from our athletic department."

Notre Dame makes the most sense geographically.

The reason for Rutgers, though, is to get a foot in the door our East. Improves marketing, recruiting, and television dollars if they can expand the area they cover.

There's a rumor going around that a mod stepped down, but I don't believe it.

He did. But stepping down does not mean leaving, it means I do not have the time to commit to checking the board everyday. It is still my favorite source of hmwk distraction.

If the Big Ten gets to 12 teams then they can do a conference championship game correct? I'd love that because not a fan of the 48 day lay off for a Big Ten that makes a BCS Bowl game.

Notre Dame: Geographically makes sense and could bring in a big market. I think ND values their football independence too much to go.

Missouri: Geographic fit. Decent football/basketball programs (which are probably #2 behind markets they could bring with in importance). Is market very big? I think they'd join in a heartbeat.

Nebraska: Football powerhouse, but smallest market (not counting my 3 neighbors flying a flag or that Sensors in Eagan is a Cornhusker bar on Saturdays). I can't see them leaving the Oklahoma rivalry.

Rutgers: Could bring in a large NJ and NY market. Football and basketball programs are emerging (women's hoops is elite level)

Others mentioned. Pittsburgh-great fit, but unlikely as they already have PA market. Conneticut-their football program is on the rise and they could bring a considerable market as well.

I think Missouri joins for sure along with Rutgers. ND and Neb decline so they try to move on Connecticut to make it 14.

There is no way we(Nebraska, I say we because I'm from there) should leave the big 12.

I'm excited for Big Ten expansion and want to add some exciting teams and while I have always liked Nebraska, they should stay in the Big 12 and not move to the Big 10+2or4

Didn't they offer to add Notre Dame at about the same time they added Penn State?

But my life would be lesser without the Big Ten logo with the "11" in it.

Stepping down means laying down. And when you lay down, YOU GET WALKED ON!
