actually you can run the offense through darko. in the playoffs in orlando against detroit the offense ran better through darko than it did with dwight. now dwight is a better player but darko runs the offense.

darko will move the ball and make the best play. he will shoot or he will pass and keep the ball moving. he's unselfish to a fault. his defense is elite level. darko will also fit in with different types of players, he doesn't have to be paired with a certain lineup or a certain style of play. so in my opinion his combination of defense, glue, flexibility and offensive ability puts him #1 for the team. this in no way means he's a better player than Al.

darko, al, love, draft pick

there is a difference between running an offense and throwing the ball into the post and asking a guy to score.

@worm guts.
j oneal turned into an all star, ben wallace all star, steve nash the list isn't as short as you think. sometimes a player just needs the right opportunity. darko has never been on a team without an all star level big man.

Disagree. Darko has shown glimpses of an effective post game. He's also a MUCH better passer. Love is simply not a good player with his back to the basket and not a good passer there. He genuinely looks uncomfortable when he is fed the ball in the post.

Yeah, since Love is notorious for his outlet pass (which is impressive at times) people assume he is a great all-around passer. In terms of half-court passing, Darko showed more in the first couple of games here than Kevin has shown so far in his carreer. Its just true.

There's still a little confusion - are we supposed to rate the players without considering how much they are going to get paid? Is Darko absolutely better than Al - I don't know if I would go that far, but I'm open to the possibility. Is Darko at $4-$6 million better than Al at $10+ million? I'm a lot more comfortable with this.

Love has a few concerns for me beyond those already mentioned in this thread:
He doesn't draw a double-team
His conditioning is awful (yeah, Darko's was pretty bad when he was on the wolves too, but I think we all believe he can get back into a high level of physical condition - Love has never gotten there)

The others aren't worth considering or haven't played in the NBA so it's tough to rate them

I apologize for the confusion, maybe this is why I don't start threads regularly.

I was thinking more along the lines of "pick who you want the most on this team." After we get a number one option, or the player most of us think we should keep the most, we will go to a number two post player.

For example, it looks like Al will probably take number one. After the brilliant basketball minds on this forum have decided Al is who we should keep, we will build the rest of our back court based around keeping Al.

That's what I envisioned might help us determine who we should trade and who we should keep. I know that value plays a HUGE part in this decision, but I still feel like Al is the best option even if he is paid much more than anyone else.

Al has shown he is loyal, and has proved the most as far as offensive game/legit number 2 option.
Darko could bog down once he gets paid
Love is still young and could improve (but who knows)
Pek and Cousins have never played an NBA game and are the hardest to judge.
That is another reason I still go with Al, even when taking his pricetag into consideration.

Of course, if we could get the best player back value-wise with an Al trade and are comfortable rolling with Cousins/Darko/Love, then this thread would be sort of pointless.
I just thought this board could use a reference as to who we would look to keep or shop, based on a vote. The main goal is to come up with a joint plan, and then weed out which 2 or 3 post players we should look to move.
