The CBA is likely going to change for the players in a really bad way soon, I think the owners will get pretty much every point they want. This could be these 3's only chance to match up with players of their calibur AND get paid at max with these types of increases and guaranteed money.

But on the flip side of this, all of them getting max contracts in the one spot could screw with that team if the cap goes down in the new CBA. They'd be forced to rely on end of the 1st rookies and veteran minimum types guys just to keep their payroll down.

Wasn't he "the man" in another cold city, on another losing team with Toronto? I don't see any incentive for him to come here.

I can think of three reasons. Calderon, Turkoglu, and Bargnani don't play for Minnesota.

LOLOLOLOL! Post of the year my friend!!! Heres hoping they dont play for us next season either.

Just for a minute let's be a little bit realistic.

1. Melo is not coming here - what makes even the wildist dreamer think he would sign an extension with the pupps if he wouldn't sign an extension with the nugggets?

2. Bosh, LeBron, Wade and Amare are not coming here. It's cold, the wolves are bad, and we are mid market with no legit stars on the roster. With sign and trades we could max two guys - same as New York, Chicago, etc. Bottom line: Aint gonna happen.

3. Kahn knows Bosh, LBJ, Wade and Amare are never coming here. He also knows he has a lot of cap room - and Rudy Gay is not worth what he's going to make. That said, he knows with all the big time free agents, cap space is more valuable now than ever. What he's trying to do is figure out how to best use his cap space to benefit from these big time free agents wanting to play together.

The phone calls I think he may be making are as follows:
I imagine him calling Toronto about Bosh to say "If Bosh wants to go to Chicago in a sign and trade, and we agree to take back Deng's contract and Noah would you take Al Jefferson and change?"

I would also think he would be on the horn with the Clippers saying if you need to trade Kamen or Baron to clear space for LBJ and Wade we would take one of them and Blake Griffin in exchange for Kevin Love (who obviously has ties to the area).

The Knicks and Nets don't really have much to offer in the form of big contracts and small contracts with upside (like Noah, Blake) - unless the Nets were willing to offer Lopez and Harris - but I don't think Harris is too overpaid and I think they could likely just trade him for straight cap space elsewhere. Beasley has already been talked about from Miami (Gomes for Beasely and #17?). To me these are the types of realistic deals Kahn needs to be looking into and hopefully is.

^^^You forgot the money ... it's about money no matter how you choose to spin the wheel.
