Just something to keep in mind, though we won't know if we need to think about that or not until the next CBA is signed.

I've been wondering how much impact this would really have, since as the rule is written now, isn't what a team can sign the player for (if they want to go above the slot) limited to cap space and exceptions? I'm not sure the Wolves will still have too much cap room in the summer of 2012, and some of the talk around the new CBA seems to hint that owners will look to axe the MLE. Even if that doesn't turn out to be the case, would what the Wolves have to pay him be too different from what he would have made if they would have traded up to #2 to take him?

I guess it would be more incentive for Rubio to try and push his way to a team with room under the cap, so that would be something to keep in mind.

I was thinking the same thing in regards to Rubio opting to stay in Europe another year to get more money from the Wolves. It seems like the smart things to do. Obviously this could all change after the CBA stuff, but I think I'd wait another year while getting to play a whole season on a championship team and also get paid more money when I do decide to NBA it up.

If he stays until after the new CBA, theres a good chance that salary structures will change, and he might not get as much as he can in 2011.

I'm not sure people go out of their way to rip the Wolves so much as the franchise has never had a winning record (without Kevin Garnett). The franchise outside of the Garnett years reeks of failure and shouldn't really give much optimism that it will improve. I mean the team won 15 games a year ago and even with Demarcus Cousins staring the Wolves in the face as a franchise center, there is a chance they pass on him or trade out of that spot.

I hope Minnesota gets good again, but it seems like quite the uphill climb that's for sure.

We've only been in the league 21 years. During that time we've never picked higher than 3 and have never moved up in the lottery. Compare Orlando which has also been in the league 21 years and which has won the lottery 3 times, getting two of the best lottery prizes of all time in Howard and Shaq.

So you see a lot of our failure is poor management, but a lot of it is luck too.

He has far more money to lose by opting out in hopes the CBA is resolved in 2011 (assuming we get to the end of June without a new CBA, which is the scenario I have been discussing in this thread).

He doesn't love us anymore.
He'd rather be a rube than a REAL gm.
Some silly shorthand that's probably related to rubechat's forums/inside joke, if you want the inside scoop on the silly shorthand, I cannot help you.
