I would help the Knicks...

Post#1 » by john2jer » Wed Oct 20, 2010 5:12 pm

Yeah we all hate them, but I would trade them the first round pick needed to get Carmelo heading east. Only problem is do they have anything we'd want for either the Memphis or Utah pick?

Gallo, Mozgov, and Randolph would be the only ones I'd have even a little interest in. Is Brewer and the Memphis pick enough to pick up Gallo? It would be nice to pick up yet another '08 Draftee. :-) Probably not even close, though. And do we even have the minutes?

Essentially my goal would be to destroy Denver, and get another star out of the West, thus helping the Wolves. That reason alone would make me tempted to overpay in the trade.

Help me get it done without destroying our core. shrink?

Oh I agree. I don't think they have anything we want that's worth what we'd have to give up, but still, I want Melo out East and we have the extra 1st to spare.

You got this all wrong, jerkstore. Word on the street is that they can get a first for Chandler.

DENVER doesn't like one or both of Gallo and Randolph -- however it will take both of them to get Melo. Both have a value that is higher than a mid-late first + Brewer. Indications from WT are that NY has found takers for either Gallo or Randolph that would give Denver a player/s that they prefer.

Thus, if MN is on that ^^^ type of deal, we would be giving up someone like Beasley for Gallo or Randolph.

Where MN can really help is absorbing Eddy Curry's contract, which would put Denver under the lux.

Consider --

Denver OUT: Anthony
Denver IN: Brewer + Gallo + Telfair #1 (via Chandler deal to anonymous 3rd team)

MN IN: Curry + Randolph
MN OUT: Telfair + Brewer

NY OUT: Curry + Gallo + Randolph + #1 (via Chandler)
NY IN: Anthony

I actually think trading the Utah pick to Orlando for the rights to Vazquez would be a better move. Even if there is a decent chance he would be willing to follow Rubio to Minnesota, we should do it because we are trying to build something great.

Carmelo is going to be traded no matter what we do. I won't believe he will stay unless he signs a contract. This is why I would only make a trade if it improves the team in the future.

I see two options.

1.) Package pick with Brewer+other piece for a better piece. Kind of a quality/quantity issue if plausible.

2.) Send Brewer+pick for future pick with limited protection. Gamble for both teams, but it could be nice.

I guess I wouldn't be opposed to getting in on the deal and providing cap space/Brewer/picks, but I don't really think that Gallo or Randolph are the best fits.

I think the main questions are

1. What high paid (and available) players on teams that want to cut salary/go young are available, and desirable?
2. Would those team prefer picks + Brewer + Beasley? + cap space or picks + Gallo/Randolph?

I still like Iggy, especially next to Wes Johnson on the wing. As a duo, they're both long/athletic, should both be strong defenders, Iggy can slash/playmake while Snipes can shoot the three. What would Philly want, if Iggy is even available?

Who else might be available? Josh Smith? OJ Mayo (as you can see by my sig, he's obviously incredible)? Do we wait and try to either overpay or sign&trade Al Horford (assuming the Hawks let him go for some reason)?

Lots of questions, I realize. But I'm an inquisitive fellow, so deal with it. 8-)

Unless we can pull great value, I don't think this is a great time to trade for us. We need some time to evaluate the players we've taken risks on. I don't particularly want to take on a high priced player like Iggy until we see what we have with Johnson, Webster and Beasley. I don't want to spend our cap space until we know what we need.

I like Gallinari. I don't think he's worth giving up Beasley, but if we could do Brewer+1st, that would be fun. I don't think it's enough, however, and don't see much else we would/should give up at this point.

I would be completely surprised if they used their cap space this year.

Come on guys. We owe them for Darko. Knicks fans have convinced me of this.

Speaking of Orlando and Denver? - Does anyone else besides me think Billups would be perfect for them? They need to win now with the high paid guys like Vince and Rashard on their team. My guess is Denver would happily take a modestly priced Jameer Nelson plus cap relief for him. Why not us simultaneously facilitate trades to send both Carmello and Chauncey out of Denver?

Vazquez isn't worth anything people.

Has even given any indication that he wants to play in the NBA? No.

Is he on the rookie scale? No.

Does he have a buyout? What his's buyout? Probably a fair amount.

Either his contract ends after the 2010/11 season, or he has an NBA buyout. I'm not sure which. Remember though, this is an 11th pick who would be 28 years old for the 2011/12 season. We're talking about a trading a pick that's going to be in the 20's (we got #23 from Utah this summer). Rubio is coming over in 2011 (assuming Kahn is telling the truth), so we have to get it together. Bringing in established vet is the best way to do that.

I don't want to say Minnesota is his preferred destination, but I was a bit amused by this.

Despite the fashionable pose, Vazquez remains a small-town man at heart. He comes from a village of 2,000 people in Chantada, nestled in the Galicia region of Spain along the northwestern coastline. It is part of the Spanish Outback called Espana Profundo. Agriculture is the main industry.

His father, who died of skin cancer in March 2004, painted cars. His mother is a domestic worker. Although Vazquez has traveled throughout Europe for competitions, the United States was foreign territory.

The frenetic energy of Manhattan overwhelmed him.

"Yes, I was a little scared," he said, looking back. "It's not just changing cities, it's changing countries. I was thinking I would have to adapt as quickly as possible to a different lifestyle."

"Manhattan shocked us quite a bit," Toral said. "Everybody was running down the streets, and we were just looking at them [wide-eyed]."

They would come to Central Florida a day later, staying overnight at the Westin Grand Bohemian in downtown Orlando.

Vazquez seemed pleased to be in Orlando, less overwhelmed after the madness of Manhattan.

My sources have informed that there are no big cities in Minnesota.

couldn't agree more, I would like to see what all of our new players can do together in the regular season before we go out and get even more new guys

I don't really see a problem with giving up our cap space this year for a player like Randolph or Gallinari in return. Either player is an asset. We can figure out the rest later. I think obtaining either is as good as it gets for giving up our cap space for a year and I don't think you can pass up an opportunity like that.

I agree with you, Krap, so long as there's no way we could could land Melo or Paul ourselves...

we're probably positioned better than any team as far as having the pieces to acquire a player like that. however, we may be destined to build on a foundation of #2 picks that didn't match the hype (yet?).

Nice post. This is what I've been advocating as well (though I'd send Telfair back to NYC to get DEN more money, since they don't love Gallo). If we were kicking in the 1st, we could offer the UTA pick for Toney Douglas as our back-up PG.

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachi ... Id=2ba92my

Dr. K has it right though. The value I think MIN could really add to a deal is from cap space. Sure Kroenke and his wife are richer than snot, but very few owners want to pay lux taxes on a non-contender. I think a deal like this saves Kroenke about $25 million dollars, and you can buy a lot of Totino's Party Pizzas with $25 million bucks.

I just happened to read this. Fortuitous.

According to Alan Hahn, a top priority for the Nuggets in any Carmelo Anthony trade is to shed enough salary to avoid paying the luxury tax this season.

Denver projects to be over the tax threshold by season's end.

"Bottom line is the Knicks have to find a way to work out a deal that results in Denver coming out of this with immediate financial savings (read: they get under the luxury tax threshold)," Hahn wrote in a Web chat. "That I know for a fact is a top priority for the Nugs."
