David Kahn Interview on KFAN

Post#1 » by shrink » Fri Nov 19, 2010 3:51 pm

A summary:

Kahn is trying to temper expectations. He's happy people are excited, but these are very young players, and there will be lots of bumps along the way as they learn what they can do, and what they can't do and need to improve upon. Try not to get too excited about a win here or a loss there on the 4-9 team.

Most of the talk just on Beasley. Tremendous athlete, finally given a great opportunity. Is he the best shooter in NBA history? Was this the best trade in Timberwolves history? We may finally have that clear-out, go-to scorer on the last play of the game. He's learning to fight through picks to defend opposing three's, but with his athleticism, its not something he can't do.

We're not at full strength. Webster was a big part of the pre-season, we're missing Jonny, Ridnour just got back. We'll be stronger, but players will need to make room, and change some of the roles they've had on the team, so there will be a learning curve there.

He refused to talk about whether POR hid the medical info on Webster.

Kahn's not "in the mood" to trade any players. He wants to see how they work together, and see what he's got.

Kahn's happy with Darko's improvement. He mentioned that after he missed a crucial free throw, he came back to make the second -- and wondered if Darko could have done that last year. He also pointed out that Darko is still coming back after playing little ball for a lot of his career. He has the physicality.

Wes Johnson has a gorgeous shot. He needs to work on his ball-handling (and is), but Kahn was surprised at how good a passer he is.

Very little talk on Kevin Love. Kahn never initiated any trade talk on him. Kahn feels he needs to give the young players room to grow, and that was part of the reason Al Jefferson was traded.
