Missed this one but I've read this thread/watched the highlights. Again, a very tough loss to take, the Spurs' experience and quality came through in the end and we've just got to take it on the chin. We're a young, inexperienced team and just one lapse in the NBA you'll get punished. Some positives to take but nonetheless it's a devastating loss.
Darko Milicic for MIP!

I don't know about you guys, but after letting this game sink in for a few days, the careening Ginobili "drawing the foul" on Darko to foul him out in OT is bothering me more than the 3 point foul (which was clearly also complete BS). The fact that Manu can simply veer completely off course at any time and swerve into an opponent, and still draw that foul, is just the type of thing that bothers me about the NBA. In this case Ginobili changed direction so sharply that by the time he got to Darko he had lost control of the ball and it was a few feet away from him before first contact with Darko.
I watched the replay of this play a few times, it's clear that the entire goal of that play was to get that last foul on Darko, I just don't understand how a ref can miss this call, there is no argument to make for Ginobili going that direction, there was absolutely no place for him to go; if there is something wrong with the way Darko defended that play, then how on earth is anyone supposed to play defense? It's just plain ridiculous.

the "and 1" on darko at the end of the 4th bothered me more than anything. he just runs down the lane and sticks out his non shooting hand and they call a foul. darko barely touched him.

Or how about when he elbowed Brewer in the face out by half-court, and that's somehow a foul on Brewer.
Good times.

Spurs fan talking about how 'they were the Timberwolves' and 'Minnesota were the Spurs', and that Spurs had no business being in OT. Mentions Milicic quite often:

I definitely agree with him that Darko fouling out was basically the dagger. Apparently Rambis told his team to "protect Darko" right before OT began. It looks like Pop told Manu, "we're gonna run you off a pick on the perimeter, run into Darko and see if you can get him fouled out." Pop's plan worked to perfection, Manu lost the ball because his only objective on that play was to run right into Darko and flop:

Of all the tough calls down the stretch this one probably takes the cake. Also, Manu's and-1 layup after Brewer gambled and got beat, which was Darko's 5th foul, was also highly questionable. Of course the Wolves shot themselves in the foot quite a few times and never should have let the game get that close, allowing the officials to decide the outcome, but that's what happened and, well, that's what happened.
Still, with all our youth and our injuries, to be competitive with elite teams at this point is something to be very optimistic about. Now the Pups know that they are capable of competing with anyone in this league, and if they get some consistency the victories will start coming. I still don't think we've had a game all season where all of our "big 3" (Beas, Love, and Darko) have had good games all at the same time. Let's hope that changes soon.
Return to Minnesota Timberwolves
