My mentor would be a good defensive player. Calderon is not.

That's why Calderon only somewhat fits the description (although I'd be interested if he didn't have that ludicrous contract). Tough to find good defensive players at PG these days, tougher still to find ones who would be worth acquiring for a backup/mentor role.

I don't know if it's that tough. Two got drafted in the middle of the 1st this year and same sort of thing the year before. But it's definitely tough to get veterans like that. Jarrett Jack would have been nice here, I guess.

I think, defensively, Rambis is getting frustrated with his mix of players ... defending PG is horrid as we all know, but "team" defense just seems to be an achillis. We seem to have too many players who don't anticipate well nor pick up on what team are doing. We can use the youth excuse, but when players make the same mistakes over and over, I have to start looking at a lack of something ... discipline, communication ... or maybe just a lack of ability. IDK.

If we acquire players prior to the deadline, I would assume they will be average or better defensively.

Bledsoe's looked like he'll be a solid defender (even though he's getting lit up in iso situations), tough to make the same judgement on Bradley at the NBA level given his lack of minutes, and there's still legit questions about his ability to run the point.

Last year's PG depth was a bit freakish, to say the least.

I think at least part of the problem is the way Rambis is asking them to play defense. It might work for vets who are all on the same page, but I think he's asking too much of young guys who are still figuring out how to play.

From what I've seen of Bradley he looks like an awesome defender. Obviously I can't prove this with statistics or anything, but he passes the eye test.

True about last year, but guys like Holiday always seem to slip. Good defensive combo guards never seem to be high on people's lists, for whatever reason. Even looking at this year's mocks you can see guys like Tyshawn Taylor and Iman Shumpert, both excellent defenders, are projected for the 2nd round.
