Now they're saying he got into an altercation with Tony Allen on a team flight and got his face smashed in.

Mayo got into Allen's face, and Allen struck him, sources say. Several teammates got between them and broke it up. Mayo missed Tuesday game.

Altercation came after a card game gone awry. Mayo became increasingly belligerent toward Allen when asked to settle a debt, sources say

Wasn't Sundiata waived cause he was a crappy gambler? Why do we want Mayo now?

Interesting. Great find Krap.
I start him in fantasy for the first time in a few weeks and he pulls this crap. The nerve.
Over a card game? I was hoping for something juicy like Delonte banging LeBron's mom.

When you play the Gaines waiving backwards, you can hear an FDR fireside chat.

OJ Mayo is one of the best defenders in the league, hes a two way player and hes a great passer and playmaker.

Maybe they're going with a completely new game on those long distance flights? I hear Mayo is an absolute superstar at battleship.

With this move, I think its a bigger indication that one of Flynn/Ridnour/Telfair isnt getting traded this year. I dont think we'd put ourselves in a situation where we would have 2 pgs on our team.
I was perfectly fine w/ trading any random 2 point guards and keeping the leftovers, not much separation for me between the 4

I still feel like Flynn has some value even though he has regressed this season - the rest is baggage. I BADLY want to deal one or more of them for something.....ANYTHING. We are still in the acquiring assets phase of this thing, so I really don't care who is playing the point this year since they will likely not be playing much if at all next year. If this means that Sundiata Gaines winds up playing 15 minutes a game the rest of the year so we can improve draft positions, etc, so be it.

Re: Sundiata waived .... Trade coming?
If his contract was not guaranteed, then the timing of the waive is to avoid a guarantee kicking in for the rest of the season. Any player who has not cleared waivers by Jan 10 gets paid for the rest of the season.
In other words, this move is no indication at all of a trade coming. Warriors cut Carney almost on the same day, for the same reasons: he wasn't worth paying for the rest of the year.

Well yeah, we get that, but its more fun to think trade.

Re: Sundiata waived .... Trade coming?
Here's a trade I concocted from rumors of NJN getting Melo, the Sixers saying they play better without Iguodala, and the Mayo situation... as well as Minnesota's interest in those players (assumption about them being interested in Iggy).
NYK in: Flynn, Thabeet, Songaila
NYK out: Randolph, Douglas, Curry
Reasoning:
Good: Good value for players who are little used; improve team for playoff push; Flynn likely an upgrade of Douglas; Sonaila can play rotation minutes this year, Thabeet in future years
Bad: Lose 2011 cap space
MEM in: Brewer, Tolliver, Douglas, MEM 1st, UTA 1st
MEM out: Mayo, Thabeet
Reasoning:
Good: Improve defense for playoff push; talents of incoming players compliment those of Conley, Gay, and Gasol; cut ties with relative disappointments; gain cap space to resign Gasol, and also net picks in the process
Bad: Do not get a player of Mayo's talent level back
PHI in: Johnson, Curry
PHI out: Iguodala, Songaila
Reasoning:
Good: Gain a young player who could fit very well next to Holiday and Turner, improve future cap situation
Bad: Trading proven player for relative unknown
MIN in: Iguodala, Mayo, Randolph
MIN out: Johnson, Flynn, Brewer, Tolliver, MEM 1st, UTA 1st
Reasoning:
Good: Team immediately better, athleticism improves, gain players with upside, excite fanbase
Bad: All three players seen as disappointments though in miscast roles; Mayo potentially miscast again, but this time as part-time "triangle" PG; lose cap space and acquired picks
Rotation would look something like this: (first listed is the starter)
PG: Mayo (25), Ridnour (23)
SG: Iguodala (18), Webster (20), Mayo (10)
SF: Beasley (25), Iguodala (17), Webster (6)
PF: Love (28), Beasley (13), Randolph (7)
C: Darko (25), Randolph (13), Love (10)
Pek would get minutes based on Darko and Randolph's play or foul trouble.
I think the weakest part is Memphis getting back what they are, since making the playoffs and some mid/late-firsts might not be enough to placate the fanbase about Mayo's departure... but unsure how to remedy or if it can be remedied.

I would leave out Memphis completely. NY would probably prefer a pick over Thabeet anyway.
Maybe something like
NY in: UTAH 1st, Ridnour
NY out: Randolph, Douglas
PHI in: Johnson, Telfair, Pekovic
PHI out: Iggy
MN in: Iggy, Randolph, Douglas
MN out: Johnson, Telfair, Pekovic, Ridnour, Utah 1st
Something along these lines would make more sense IMO although I would hate to part with Johnson for Iggy.
