Our Greatest Pickup Last Offseason? (Excluding Beasley)

Post#1 » by Torcher » Tue Jan 11, 2011 3:46 am

Who do you think was the best player we picked up during last year's offseason? Webster looks to be that man, and his scoring leads the bench. But what about AT? He can defend nicely and also can shoot it on the other end. Maybe it's Johnson? He has a great passing ability and a smooth (although inconsistant) shooting touch. Is it our starting PG, Ridnour?

Who do you think? :gossip:

I'd like to think its Tolliver. No matter what direction this team goes in the future, there will always be a place for him. Like Brian Cardinal, and Mark Madsen before him... that type of player just BELONGS.

AT. If Webster can start playing consistently like he did coming off his injury then he'll be the guy. But, Anthony Tolliver fills a void that we SEVERELY need so I think that's more important than the Webster pick-up currently.

Looking back on it now - Tolliver. Hopefully in a year or two we'll look back on it and say Johnson by a mile.

The best bargain has been Tolliver.

Considering Flynn's been pooping the bed all season, Luke might be the guy that's contributed the most.

Wow, what a sad offseason it would have been if not for Beasley.

Right now? It's Tolliver.

But all 3 of Johnson, Webster and re-signing Darko has the potential to eventually surpass him

He wasn't a pick up but i was happy we were able to sign the Montenegran Rapist.

He improved our front court name possibilities:

B-easy/Loving/Montenegran Rapist
Montenegran Rapist?Love(s)/Wesley Snipes
Wesley Snipes?Love(s)/Manna from heaven
Wesley Snipes?Love(s)/Kosta Couscous

After.. I dunno.. I like AT and Webster but why not Ridnour? Guy has started virtually every game for us this season.

Because he's the escape goat.

I don't know if the others are joking about it, but I truly think bringing Darko back was the biggest move. He's been the definition of inconsistent, but his promise is a huge plus to me. I don't know that he'll stop the foul problems, but if he gets to where he can play 30 minutes a night he'll have to be considered a tremendous signing.

Right now, Tolliver seems like me to be that guy, because he is so easily worth his $2 mil contract, and helps the team so much. However, he will always have a secondary role on this team, so Darko could certainly end up taking his place, signed to what I consider a discount deal for a big man. I believe we overpaid on Ridnour and Webster, and Pekovic looks like a question mark so far. The only other guy I'd say that has the chance to be more important than Darko is Wes Johnson, but you might not be including draft picks in your grouping. I'd rank them:

Beasley
Tolliver [edit]
Darko
Wes Johnson
Webster
Ridnour
Telfair (fine, but expiring, and dropping in importance)
Koufos
Hayward
Pekovic
Bjelica

Did I miss anybody? [edit: LOL! - yup .. the guy I wrote the post about! I knew that list felt light!]

I guess I'd have to give a slight edge to Darko over tolliver at this point - mainly due to tolliver's injury and Darko's earlier success. I think Tolliver's energy and hustle might prove to be more valuable than Darko's inconsistency by the end of the season, though.

I don't consider Darko an off-season pick up since he was on the team, but would support that argument.

Figuring in cost, production, and helping a huge area of need it's Tolliver. I think Webster is still the most talented and Johnson has the most upside. That said Ridnour seems to have the biggest impact on our success because I don't think we've won a game that he hasn't been productive in.

I'd say Luke. He's gotten waaaaaay too much criticism around here. He's 4th on the team in scoring, third in minutes, and is on pace to finish the season with the most assists in a season for a Wolf since the 2004-2005 season. His assist/turnover ratio is also 13th in the NBA. He leads the NBA in FT%, and is 13th in the NBA in 3P% as well.

Agreed, all the stick he's had on here has been way too unfair.

I'm with Krapinsky on this one though, re-signing Darko. Without him on the court we usually crumble.

Beas - Its easy to see his impact and the assets we gave were a steal
Darko - I think he makes the team better for more of the game than anybody (except Love) when he is playing well.
Tolliver - I love him, but as mentioned before, he is a lifelong bench player so he usually impacts the game for fewer minutes.
Ridnour - Man he plays so well most of the time, but his decision making at the end of these close games can really hurt us.
Wesley - Has had his ups and downs as all Rookies do, but I feel he has made us a better team and will continue too.
Pek - Trying to give him the benefit of the doubt because everyone said it would take an adjustment to the NBA game. I have been impressed with his skills, but not necessarily his play so far. Last night (ORL) I thought he played well against Dwight.
Webster - Poor guy. He really looked like he was going to be something with this team in the Preseason. I just don't know if he will ever be healthy/confident enough to blossom into anything more than what he is now.
**Bassy just doesn't play, but I think he was a really nice addition and shined for his brief moment in the sun. If he is worked into a NY trade, he will have been an even better acquisition.
Lazar - Love this guy. Wish he could see any semblance of a real sequence on the floor.
Kosta - You know that sound kids make trying to sound like a fart? That.
