Timberwolves moving to WCCO radio

Post#1 » by Tha Juice » Wed Apr 6, 2011 3:34 am

The sports shuffle on Twin Cities radio continued Tuesday, with WCCO and KFAN swapping teams. WCCO Radio will sign a four-year deal to broadcast Timberwolves games while the Wild will move to KFAN under a three-year contract. Both deals will start next season.

"Sometimes fresh is good," said Timberwolves president Chris Wright. "We really, really like the fact that the reach of WCCO is incredible. As we grow our franchise, we see ourselves more and more [as] a regional team."

More info for anyone interested...

Looks like it's 830 AM basically everywhere, and provides at least a decent signal most places in the surrounding area.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WCCO_%28AM%29

Due to the tower's height and power, as well as Minnesota's mostly flat landscape, WCCO boasts one of the largest coverage areas in the country. During the day, it provides at least grade B coverage of almost all of Minnesota (as far north as Duluth and as far south as Rochester), plus large portions of Iowa and Wisconsin. Under the right conditions, it reaches into portions of North and South Dakota. At night, the station's signal typically reaches across 28 U.S. states and three Canadian provinces. Certain conditions can make the signal stretch much farther— legendary station personality Howard Viken says that he once picked up the station while he was stationed at Guadalcanal in 1943. In 2005, WCCO began broadcasting in the HD Radio Hybrid waveform during the daytime hours.

WCCO is the best radio station for coverage in the state, by far. KFAN is crap, utter crap.
Good news for the Wolves, and their fans.

Yea, I can't get Kfan for crap consistently then they pull that crap where you can't listen to games over the net.

I once took a left turn too tight and nearly drove into oncoming traffic in the opposite lane, and to top if off there WAS a median dividing the lanes, and it was a road I'd driven countless times before....because I was listening to a wolves game on the radio.

It was the Wolves vs. New Orleans game a few years back when Mike James nailed a 3 pointer to give us the lead/tie with like 5 seconds left. I went absolutely nuts in my car, and yeah....the left turn thing happened. If anyone forgets how that game ended....Peja hit a baseline jumper with like 2 seconds left to seal the W :( . After witnessing the replay, and that Mike James was obviously out of bounds before his shot, I doubt I would've went as crazy if viewing the game.

Will we be able to listen to the games online? Sorry if it was mentioned in the article and I missed it. Once I saw the word "wild" I started skimming it.
