OJ Mayo is one of the best defenders in the league, hes a two way player and hes a great passer and playmaker.

So just fire him and promote an assistant. No increased spending, and almost no chance that we get any worse.

Try changing the system first, if it doesn’t work than you can shake the roster up because your not going to get that 4 million dollars back.

If you believe that the system is the problem, it would be an easier to demand that Rambis change his system around next season.

I definitely do think it is the system, and I really doubt that Rambis can or will change.

If Rambis refuses to change it, than you fire him.

The next step is to add a defensive specialist to the team. Add some talent and ask Rambis to make it work.

And this will cost money. So instead of keeping him and paying someone else to do his job, they should fire him and pay someone else to do his job.

Reggie Theus has always been pursuing college head coaching job. I can’t recall if Laimbeer is doing the same, but obviously he would leave if the position presented itself. Even if they both stay, I would still prefer adding an defensive specialist because it’s a far cheaper solution. If your car has a flat tire, you don’t need to drop it off at the junkyard and buy a new car.

Not getting rid of Rambis now will cost Taylor another $20 million next season.
"That's why the last two years weren't guaranteed," Walsh said. "Either way, he knew it could have happened either way."

I find this news very odd. Laimbeer was number 2 to Rambis (he was the coach when Rambis was ejected... no?), and was in direct charge of the bigs. He flew to Darko's home country and worked with him personally in the off season. And was a huge help with Kevin Love. In every interview I have heard with Love he has praised Laimbeer's coaching and knowledge. So this info really does not make much sense.

Now I am sure Laimbeer has rubbed some players the wrong way, but my question is - if its players who hold no long term value with the team, who the hell cares??

Laimbeer has a strong personality, and yet he has won in nearly every capacity in his basketball profession. And yet some "inside sources" are telling us Laimbeer is inept? And yet Love has blossomed under his direct tutelage??

I am sorry but I dont buy it.

?

Laimbeer was the big mans coach. And worked with Love - Love was an all-star this year and was the league leading rebounder.

Why the question?

From Chad Ford's chat today:

I really like Mike Brown. If he can't get the Lakers to play defense, I don't know who can. Offensively, I think the Lakers will be relieved to move away from the triangle and get more pick and rolls in the offense.

I found it funny that the Lakers' defensive system, the same system that Rambis uses, doesn't count as defense, and that even the Lakers, a team that's won five titles with it, would be relieved to get away from the Triangle and start using a P&R offense. Rambis really was the worst hire possible in hindsight.
