Which 2011 Rookie do you want/expect to be a Wolf?

Post#1 » by Breakdown777 » Fri Jun 17, 2011 12:21 am

There is a week to go, so I thought another mock thread might be fitting.

Want: This isn't about value at the #2, this is about the rookie you want on this team. Obviously if you pick someone like Burks you'd be hoping for a trade-down. If Burks is that guy you want, go ahead and pick him. If you want to give a big board, that's probably even better.

Expect: Well, I think you can figure this out.

I wish I could add two polls, but because I can't and didn't want to make 2 threads, so I just stuck with "Want" and allowed 2 choices. With all the trade talks, and conflicting scenarios, it's really hard to gauge what everyone is hoping/expecting. Hopefully this makes it more concise.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Pick #2
Want: 1.) Jonas V. 2.) Williams 3.) The Rest
Expect: Derrick Williams

Pick #20
Want: Singleton
Expect: Traded/Sold.

#2
Want: There really isn't a guy I want to trade down for. I mean a vet is more important, and I'm having a lot of of trouble with this question (sorry for the cop out). I'm just going to list my top 10. I included point guards like Irving, Walker, and Knight because I considered them BPA, but would trade them away.

Irving>Williams>Knight>Kanter>Vesely>Valanciunas>Leonard=Singleton>Thomas>Walker

Expect: I think we'll trade for a vet and get a late lotto pick, but I think one way or another we'd get Singleton if we traded several places down. If we keep the pick, we're keeping Williams.

#20
Want: Mirotic
Expect: Mirotic (stashed overseas)

Expect: Traded for garbage vet like Raja Bell or sold for cash.

OJ Mayo is one of the best defenders in the league, hes a two way player and hes a great passer and playmaker.

#2
Want: Williams, Kanter, Jonas - in that order
Expect: Williams - this is kind of tough to know which way they're leaning, but "inside sources" are saying they like Williams enough to take and keep him so I'll go with that.

#20
Want: Brooks, Burks, Hamilton, Shumpert, Selby, Tyler
Expect: Pick kept, have no clue who they end up taking

I may be cheating at my own game :-? I chose Williams and Jonas because they are my 1A and 1B. I know that it's unlikely, but I sort of voted based on who I'd like on this team the most. I really only want 1 Rookie besides Rubes (if that).

So far it looks like us as fans are all over the place, except most of us seem to be okay with taking and keeping Williams if need be.

#2
Want: Trade down netting Jonas or Biyombo plus another asset, Williams
Expect: Williams. Despite everybody's kvetching about fit with Love/Beasley, there are worse things than adding a skilled player with the ability to play above the rim who happens to be a pretty ideal fit next to Rubio. Kanter is a close 2nd when it comes to who I expect them to take.

#20
Want: Trade up for Burks or trade down with Chicago and stash a Euro with one pick and nab Jimmy Butler with the other.
Expect: Motiejunas if he's there, Mirotic, Bertans or Bogdanovic, possibly after a trade down. I'd be surprised if they stayed at #20.

I would for the wolves to find a way to nab Brooks. Pure scorer who can create his own and for others.

Burks would be ok too, can create and probably a little more defensive potential.

I'm adding "nightmare" to want/expect, and "trade down" to 2/20.

2:
Want: Jonas or Biyombo in a trade down
Expect: Willimas, or Kanter in a trade down.
Nightmare: Kanter at 2

Trade Down:
Want: lightly protected 2012 1st from a lottery team
Expect: dump a contract and/or lottery protected future 1st.
Nightmare: take on a bad contract mediocre veteran like Ben Gordon.

20:
Want: Marshon Brooks
Expect: Stash-a-Euro (Mirotic or Davis Bertans)
Nightmare: The Martell Webster scenario repeats itself.

Right now I think we should trade down while picking up an Iggy or Bogut then take a SG or C.

SG:
1. Thompson
2. Brooks
3. Burks

C.
1. Kanter
2. Biyombo
3.Valanciunias

Honestly I'd be totally cool with either Valanciunas and Burks at #4, if that Vareajo deal w/ Cle goes down.

ultimately I want Biyombo and Jimmer somehow, I'd be thrilled if we walked off w/ both of those guys by some miracle

I'm thinking trade, but If they stay @ #2, I want Williams I suppose. I don't think he's a franchise player, or even necessarily an allstar, but he can get us some points on the board and our offense needs some relentless above the rim offense in the paint

I dont want Valanciunias under any circumstances, I've had enough of Euro buyout shenanigans.

Not interested in Kanter at all either. Measurements are just way too mediocre. My theory is that if the guy you're drafting isn't going to beat his defender w/ his length/explosion, then you better have a sh*t load of tape backing up the point that he can beat defenders with great skill. Unfortunately there's almost zero film on the dude. Too risky w/ the unimpressive size and athleticism, zero tape, and there's no all star level players in the league to even compare him too.

I don't want Kahn doing the "let me show you amateurs how a PRO sees between the lines!" routine on draft day again. Just print off the DX mock draft and cross off names as they get called, when it gets to his turn, take the highest name on the list w/o a line through it and he'll do fine.
