Pass. No need for another PF, PG, or role player like Korver. Beasley is the Wolves starter & future (for now). His potential is too much to give up for this offer.

Alan Hahn: What I'm hearing is Knicks are looking into all PG options, but Flynn doesn't sound like a main target. Twitter

Alan Hahn: Minny is involved in a lot of conversations. Obviously a strong interest in moving Flynn and Flynn's agency wants him moved, too. Twitter

I'd do this as long as Flynn got any value. But no chance they'll get our #20.

The most likely NYK offer that works financially is:

MIN GETS: Tony Douglas + Renaldo Balkman
NYK GETS: Jonny Flynn

http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=3l5wqhm

Douglas 1,145,640 (2,067,880)
Balkman 1,675,000 1,675,000
2011-13 2,820,640 3,742,880

J Flynn 3,414,720 (4,329,865)

(parentheses are for team options)

Now, if MIN hated Flynn and no one else wanted him, they would decline the team option and he'd only cost them $3.4. MIN has no use for another 6' 8" SF/PF in Balkman, and he's guaranteed for two years, so this would mean if they wanted Douglas for one year, he'd cost $4.5 mil, with an additional team option at $2.

I don't see any incentive here for MIN to do this deal.

I understand that Flynn is worth very little here. He's in a bad system, coming off a promising rookie year but a dreadful season 2 and an injury. Even if Rambis is moved, Flynn is unlikely to get the minutes to rehab his value to MIN. However, I think he has value to a few other teams that can offer him the minutes. Even though this time of the year we over-value draft picks, I think many would agree that Flynn has a better chance of becoming a useful player than most of the prospects outside the lottery .. even at 17. Flynn also might have some additional ticket-selling ability in NYK from Syracuse fans.

If the trade included the 17 pick, I'd consider it, but otherwise, I'd look elsewhere for offers. I think he should be able to garner a non-lotto pick, and/or some financial relief.

He usually shoots it too quickly to be ball dominant :)

This is one of those trades that both sides seem to feel a little bit dirty about.

I would love to see Flynn in Toronto. TE for Flynn and Pekovic.

Thanks for coming over and giving us the head's up, Mags!

Since I had to look it up, I'll assume I'm saving a few clicks by others by saying

IND = #15
NYK = #17

Well put. I think any move of Flynn is going to be in that category. Not to say that he couldn't play better in a different system (he does have some physical tools, is young and has been injured.) But yeah, hold your nose, here comes Flynn/there goes Douglas.

What I like about Douglas is he plays a little D... perimeter D for the Woofies was just awful last year.

My imaginary backroom scenario:

KNICKS: You don't need Flynn. We'll give you Douglas for him.
WOLVES: Well .. that doesn't match salaries
KNICKS: We'll put in Balkman
WOLVES: No way. Where's the incentive when we have to eat that salary?
KNICKS: Include the 17? Done deal?
WOLVES: It depends. If <insert name> is still on the board, OK.
KNICKS: Sure, but I don't think he's going to get past the Sixers at #16
WOLVES: Well, you better see.

KNICKS: Pacers, would you trade #15 for #17?
PACERS: Maybe if a guy we like isn't there.
KNICKS: How about some $3 mil in cash and a 2nd?
PACERS: Maybe - let's get the bugs worked out, and see how things shake out on draft night.

First of all the knicks can't trade their first round pick this draft without getting a first rounder in return. Second of all, the knicks would never ever ever give up douglas, balkman AND our 17th pick for Flynn. Never. If the knicks can't get the wolves to give them for Flynn for douglas and balkman (unlikely) then both team need to move on.

They can, actually. The Steipen rule (or whatever it's called) only applies before the draft, i.e. you can trade a pick on draft night even if you don't have one next year.

Word to the wise I think there's a very good chance Flynn ends up a Laker. Flynn 2 years ago coming out would have been the ideal P and R, penetrating PG that the Lakers would have loved.

What exactly do the Lakers give up for him though?

Clearly we'd need to give the Lakers Love and the #2 to give Flynn the privilege of being a Laker.

I still think a Flynn/Rudy Fernandez swap would be a good deal for both teams. Salary matching is a bit of a problem.

Is portland going to cut Andre Miller before june 30th? He's the best fit for salary-matching purposes, but would cause portland to add salary. Flynn+Pek for Miller/Fernandez and cut Miller? Gives Portland a backup C in case Oden doesn't make it back.
