Expansion Draft (Hypothetical, OT)

Post#1 » by babyjax13 » Mon Jul 4, 2011 8:57 pm

This is pretty simple, and hopefully it will be a fun discussion during the lockout. If there were to be an expansion draft, what 8 players from your roster would you protect?

The rules:
1. Unrestricted free agents are not available to an expansion team to draft.
2. Unsigned draft picks are not available for the expansion team to draft.
3. Restricted free agents are available.
4. Each team must have at least one player unprotected, so if team x had 8 players under contract and 4 that were UFAs, it could only protect 7 players.
5. The expansion team can only draft one player from each roster and must have at least 14 players.

Pretty much the same as Klomp's list (I practically copy pasted it all), but I swapped Tolliver for Milicic. The sad thing is he's been one of the franchises better centers. I'm keeping Milicic locked here until Minnesota becomes a more desirable location for free agent centers and bigs stopped being so expensive.

I'm actually considering removing Randolph from the list and keeping Tolliver, but for now I'll keep my list intact.

I like Ridnour as a back-up point guard, but I think bigs are harder to find. And as has been said, Darko is one of the better ones the Wolves have had. Tolliver kind of reminds me of a young Thurl Bailey, so how can you not protect that?

Just to ad a new little twist:

Protected - Rubio, Love, Beasley, Johnson, Randolph, Darko, Ridnour, Tolliver

Unprotected - Webster, Miller, Pek, Hayward, Ellington

I think Webster's greatest value is financial and I'm not sure that is worth keeping him protected at the expense of Ridnour or Tolliver. Kind of a toss up, though.
