The wolves needed a point guard and the free agents weren't looking that attractive as I recall. A lot of people hoped Curry could be a point guard, but there were concerns about even how successful a combo guard he could be. Hindsight leaves no doubt about the choice I guess and there were plenty of people who had it right at the time.
We had just drafted Rubio, and we had the 18th pick in a draft with Lawson, Holiday, Collison and Teague who all went in that area of the draft.
This is all true. I just wanted to point out that with the sixth pick, MIN isn't trying to fill it's roster needs (an 18th is fine for that). At 6, on a bad team with no play-off expectation, a GM is trying to pluck the guy they think will have the greatest chance of becoming a star, regardless of position.
I don't know why Kahn chose Flynn, but I think too much is made of the fact that Flynn is a PG.
I'm kind of changing my stance on this. If Kahn drafted BPA, I'd let it slide. Hindsight is foresight, but did anyone really anyone believe Flynn was BPA? Any other reason would just be stupid (like if he failed on an attempt to trade him or if Flynn was just an insurance policy if Rubio stayed).
BTW, you can rip on me too because I would have drafted Hill. Curry was next on my board followed closely by DeRozan. I thought Curry was a huge question mark. He struck me as being a tweener, but he still had plenty of upside while DeRozan struck me as being the safe option.
