I'd rather swing a deal to get KG back than take on Pau. His age, his contract and his "soft" game don't really fit with anything we are doing here.

Aren't you tired of just being all young and at the bottom of the western conference? Draft a young 19 year old here, 21 year old there. Where has it got you ? At some point you have to add a proven player to go with that youth.

As a Laker fan im happy because BOTTOM teams just dont get it. Christmas day watch how Gasol destroys the Bulls frontline.

Just like the Clippers. Always in the FUNK of 20 year olds. Results..they still sucked

Its never been about not wanting an older vet. Its about not wanting Pau Gasol. You're welcome to explain who he'd fit in a lineup with Love or is he the piece you want for him? How well does he fit here at 34y/o with his $22M+ contract or anywhere else for that matter. I've seen how an offense featuring Pau with just bit pieces around him does... he is not the vet for us.

Gasol im Memphis did how well?

He's a great player, but like it was stated, he is not the vet for us. You still need a superstar to win. Gasol is second banaynay, and old banaynay. If we were going to win NOW, i'd explore a trade for him. Lock up the youth, and down the line they reach stardom and experience, then you trade for that piece you need.

Because we don't have the luxury of players lining up to sign with us, nor the revenue stream to support unreasonable spending.. we don't get it?

I really don't see us willing to give up Williams, Love or Rubio in a Gasol deal. He just makes too much money to give up one of our core guys on rookie contracts. If we view Beasley as a core guy, he might also be off the table. The rest of our assets probably aren't enough to satisfy New Orleans and make a deal happen. Probably not a realistic trade.

It seems strange to see a post like this on RealGM, where people go for a more in depth knowledge of the GM side of the game. LAL has a giant advantage, both from the rules and from it's location. LAL, like NYK, is in a giant market where they can put up a good or bad team and make huge amounts of money, simply because of access to fans, and it creates the ability to sell tickets at inflated problems, and sign billion dollar TV contracts. Because of this, LAL and NYK can overpay on lots of players. After this trade (and your ridiculous 15% trade kicker), Gasol would be the second most expensive player in the NBA (the first is Kobe, who you also own!). Is Gasol the second BEST player in the NBA? Of course not - not even close. Don't expect that since you overpaid on Gasol, that other teams value him the same way with your stinker contract.

This feels like when you're going to "race" your five year old. You give him a head start of 80%, and when he wins the race, he pumps himself up with pride.

Good lord this trade is brutal. The best offer I'd give for Gasol is Pekovic, Darko, Miller, and Webster. I MIGHT toss in the Utah pick. Any more than that and it's just TERRIBLE team management.

He's also 31, and owed over $60mil over the next 3 years after the trade kicker. With as many minutes as he's played due to playoffs and internationally, he's on the wrongside of hill for the Wolves.

The goal for the Wolves shouldn't be building the best team they can in 2011, it should be building the best team that's sustainable in the future. Blowing your wad, and assets, on an someone as expensive as Gasol, no matter how great he was, is just TERRIBLE team management.

As far as the original trade, if that's all it takes to get Chris Paul, why aren't we making a play for him? Suddenly Steve Blake and a late first are worth Lamar Odom? Ya know, the original deal the NBA said no to?
